Glens kicked off facing the club-house with a strong wind at their back. Although the home side were on the front foot for most of the half, clear-cut chances were very much at a premium. Their best chance came on 17 minutes through a determined run deep into the box by Dale Moore only for keeper Adam Strain to clean;y hold the cut back across the face of goal. Kilwinning enjoyed a good spell of pressure in the closing ten minutes of the half keeping the Glens defence on their toes. It was during another spell of some stout defending that Glens lost central defender Ryan McChesney to a hamstring injury. He was replaced by midfielder Dan Orsi and the defence reshuffled.

HT Glens 0 Buffs 0

The visitors, now with wind at their backs, began the second half brightly and forced a series of corners during which passage of play Alan Cairns made a great block on a close range shot from Ryan Nisbet and Kyle McAusland outleaped Bryan Boylan to prevent the Buffs striker heading home t the back post. Glens responded through a couple of attacks down the right by Orsi , with the first cross dipping over the bar and the second headed clear. Back came Buffs and a free-kick floated into the box .

On 67 minutes the Glens made the breakthrough with a well worked goal.  Leon Murphy played a ball down the left for Chris Dallas to chase down in the box and with his route to goal blocked by Craig Pettigrew he rolled the ball back to Murphy to whip a wonderful ball to the unmarked Dan Orsi on the far side off the box to kill the ball before drilling it home from 9 yards out.

The home side continued to press and the visitors did themselves no favour on 82 minutes after defender Joe Coleman pulled backed substitute Mick McMcCann and lost the place at the award of the free-kick, earning a straight red card.  in the last-minute of the regulation 90 minutes Carlo Monti came close to carving out an equaliser through a well executed overhead kick from deep in the box.

Prior to kick-off a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Alan “Tubbs” Graham who sadly passed away this week. Alan formerly served on the Glenafton committee as well as being club secretary for a period and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

THE BRIAN GAME

Glenafton welcomed club captain back to the starting eleven. Leading the Lesmahagow line was top goal-scorer Jonny McStay, son of former Glenafton manager John McStay who led the club the title of “Last Champions of Ayrshire” in 2001/02, the season before league reconstruction.

Gow currently sitting second in West Region League Two and having already knocked out Premiership side Largs Thistle in the 1st round of the West of Scotland Cup kicked off with a strong wind at their back.  The first decent chance fell to the visitors on 6 minutes after tenacious midfielder Paul Woodlock picked out Scott Schoneville wide on the right to whip the ball to the near post where a Ryan Innes header flashed across the face of goal and roll unimpeded to the far side of the six-yard box where Matty Clarke’s shot was blocked by Dan Orsi. Four minutes later McStay found himself with time and space on the right-hand side of the box to square the ball for Clark who took a good touch to shake off a couple defenders before forcing keeper Brian McGarrity into a point-blank save from a powerful shot from 8 yards. Gow continued to press and look the livelier but could not take advantage of a couple of free-kicks won in dangerous areas.

bb_DSC_7446.JPG

Glens began to weather the storm, literally, and on 13 minutes Conor Lynass tried his luck from 25 yards only for his shot to drift wide of the far post. Lynass then combined down the left with Alan Cairns before driving into the box only for S. Schoneville to block his cut-back for Mick McCann at the expense of a corner-kick which was delivered by Lynass and headed clear by Darren Lygate. The home side were now winning the majority of the midfield battles with Cameron Marlow and Dale Moore giving no quarter in 50-50 balls. On 18 minutes Joe Andrew slipped a cheeky ball into the box for Lynass to chase down only for centre back Neil Schoneville to intervene and eventually the loose ball was cleared for corner kick which was headed inches wide of the back post by McCann.

bb_DSC_7471.JPG

Although the Glens threatened down both flanks through Oris and Lynass the visitors well marshalled defence along with the strong head wind and driving rain was proving a hard nut to crack ensuring clear-cut chances were thin on the rain-soaked ground. Midway through the half Orsi deep on the right rolled the ball back Ally Park who leathered an angled shot from 22 yards which keeper Sandy Thomson did well to block with both hands and then smother the ball securely on the slippery surface.

Andrew picked out Lynass on the left-hand corner of the box and as S. Schoneville came across to cover, a jink to the right left the Gow man flat-footed and gave Lynass the space to curl a shot for goal only for it to sail over the bar. On 37 minutes Orsi cut in from the right flank before cracking a powerful low shot from the corner of the penalty box that Thomson once again got down to stop and hold on tightly to a ball that could otherwise have squirmed out of less sure hands in such conditions. Two minutes later Lynass floated a corner-kick to the back post where N. Schoneville cleared with a powerful header only for the tireless Marlow to snap up the ball and lash a 30 yarder that had Thomson scurrying across his line to push the top-corner bound ball away and no fewer than three of his defenders stand their ground to see off Lynass’s cut back across the face of goal.

On 41 minutes McCann and Moore combined on the outskirts of the box and the latter threaded a ball into the box for Lynass only for S. Schoneville to execute an excellent last-ditch tackle to deny the Glens man a shot from 8 yards out.  The home side continued to press and Moore’s drive into the box earned a corner that was played to the near post where McCann got the jump on McStay only for his header to sail wide.

McStay won a free-kick on the half-way line tight on the wing. It was quickly taken and the ball rolled seemingly overhit up the line for Paul Woodlock to chase with Lynass in pursuit.  However, the Gow man persevered and did well to take the ball to corner before whipping a cross aimed for the incoming Neil Schoneville at the back post only for the ball to be caught in a gust of wind and end in the back of the net to the dismay of the home support and the delight of the away. Gow 1-0 up on 43 minutes.

bb_DSC_7746.JPG

The visitors visibly lifted and in the last action of the half won another free-kick in a dangerous position that again came to nothing.

HT Glens 0 Gow 1

The Glens with the wind at their back, although it had died down by a notch or two, started the second half in determined fashion. Within a minute of the restart Lynass broke in to the left-hand side of the box and his chip into the six-yard box was headed inches wide by McCann with the keeper rooted to his line.  Orsi then attacked down the right and although his chip into a crowded box was headed on by Gary Nicholson the ball fell for Moore only for his close range shot to be deflected wide for a corner kick. Lynass played it short to Cairns and his cross was met by McCann only for his leader to loop over the bar.

Some respite for Gow through a good break down the right which ended with Scott Schoneville drilling a low angled shot from the edge of the box that was carefully gathered by McGarrity at the near post.

Back came the Glens and on 51 minutes their pressure was rewarded following a fine passing move and an equally fine finish from Mick McCann.  It began with Marlow’s forward pass to Andrew who took one defender out of play with a knock-on to Moore who broke forward on a diagonal run that drew two further defenders out of position before he switched play inside leaving McCann free to run into the box, gather the ball and calmly slip it past the advancing Thomson.

bb_dsc_7829

The visitors responded well with Innes breaking into the box and setting up McStay for a close range shot from a tight angle that was well held by McGarrity at the post.

On the hour mark Lesmahagow brought on Jason Thomson for Matty Clarke while soon after Glens replaced Conor Lynass with Leon Murphy and both substitutes were soon in the thick of the action.  First Thomson, who gathered a pass from McStay on the left hand-side of the box and attempted to complete the one-two with a super ball played into the near post only for Menzies to make a goal saving block and deflect McStay’s shot from two yards out wide of target. The corner kick was cleared and set up a counter attack that began with Murphy deep on the right and ended with him in the box, following touches from McCann and Moore, where he was stripped off the ball with a brave save from the advancing keeper.

bb_dsc_8005

Play was raging from end to end and on 67 minutes the visitors threatened again. A ball from wide on the left was floated to the back post where Woodlock deftly guided it back to the penalty spot for the incoming Innes to meet it sweetly only for McGarrity to pull off the save of the match with a strong hand pushing the ball over the bar. The corner kick that followed was cleared. Back up the field where a super through ball by Moore set up Orsi with a one-on-one against the keeper and it was Thomson that came out on top again through initially diving at his feet to knock the ball away before regaining his feet and diving on the loose ball.

bb_dsc_7967

A flurry of substitutions began with Glens bringing on Chris Dallas for Joe Andrew and the Findlay Frye for Dan Orsi while the Gow were forced to replace the injured Paul Woodlock with James Faughan.

On 77 minutes Dallas chased down a through ball and met it on the bounce at the right edge of the box and cracked a volley that dipped over the bar.  This marked a period of good pressure or the Glens and they now had a stronger wind at their back.  Murphy pounced on a poor clearance and darted into the box forcing the keeper to rush from his line to get the slightest of touches on the midfielder’s shot and send the ball narrowly passed the back post. The corner kick created a stramash in the box but the visitors stood firm.

With five minutes to go Marlow, who had covered every blade of grass, fired a low shot from outside the box and keeper Thomson showed a clean pair of hands, if not gloves, to clutch the ball. Glens continued to push for a late winner and like their counterparts their set pieces were not creating clear-cut chances.

On the 89 minutes, in what was now a rare attack, Gow won a free-kick on the left just outside the box, however it trundled along ground and straight into the hands of Brian McGarrity. The keeper quickly launched the ball upfield where Dallas, on the outskirts of the box had pulled 2 yards clear of back-tracking defenders, however the ball bounced beyond the reach of the striker and high over the head of keeper Thomson on his six yard line and despite his best efforts could not get a hand to ball as it dropped from the sky to land on the goal-line and into the net. While McGarrity’s team-mates rushed to celebrate with the unlikely goal-scorer it was difficult not to feel for his counter-part who had played exceptionally throughout. A minute later the goal-scorer turned goalkeeper diving bravely at the feet of McStay.

bb_dsc_8183

At the other end Marlow fashioned another powerful shot from outside the box that was deflected for a corner that was scrambled clear. Three minutes of added time had passed when McGarrity had to rush to the outskirts of the box to beat Jason Thomson in the race for the a through ball.  Kyle Weir whipped a fine cross from the into box for McStay but McChesney won that aerial battle and Frye ushered the ball upfield before the whistle brought an engrossing cup-tie to a conclusion.

Glenafton were first-footers at Newlandsfield as the two sides faced each other for the third time this season. As in the previous two Scottish Junior Cup ties there was little between the teams. The visitors had the opportunity to break the deadlock in the second half after substitute Leon Murphy was brought down in the box, however keeper Jordan Longmuir repeated his penalty shoot-out heroics and saved Mick McCann’s spot-kick. Another stalemate appeared to be on the cards before controversy struck four minutes into added time when substitute Craig Menzies was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Ryan McGregor slotted home the spot kick and Pollok bagged the three points .

NEWYEAR

Glens made a couple of changes from the eleven that started in the 3-0 win at Cumnock. In came Dale Moore and Conor Lynass for Findlay Frye and Leon Murphy, both on holiday. There was a welcome back to top goalscorer Chris Dallas and place on the bench after a spell out through injury since the Meadow game in mid-November.

The Glens were very much on the front foot from the kick-off and created the best of the chances on offer.  Dan Orsi won a corner kick on the right after 7 minutes which was delivered to the heart of the box by Connor Lynass and the ball met on the volley by Dale Moore only for Joe Bradley to clear it off the line with the keeper rooted to the line. Six minutes later Joe Andrew’s knock-on set Lynass free to drive into the box and fire a low angled shot for goal, as Paul Frize closed in, that appeared to have been tipped inches wide by diving keeper Stephen Grindlay, however a goal kick was the decision.

The visitors made some progress down the right which ended with Darren Christie floating a ball to the back post for Kenny McLean only for keeper Brian McGarrity to intercept and gather the ball safely.

On 24 minutes Cammy Marlow clipped a free-kick into the box where Ryan McChesney got the jump on both centre backs to head the ball on for Mick McCann to flick it back up into the air and then from inside the six-yard box attempt to guide the ball home but Grindlay got an outstretched hand to push it away as Andrew threatened before the ball was scrambled away.

Joe Andrew (far right) watches his net-bound shot

Glens continued to press and on 28 minutes were rewarded after Ally Park picked out Joe Andrew in the box with his back to goal and Kevin Green in close attendance the striker quickly turned to lash an angled shot from 12 yards beyond the reach of the keeper and into the corner of the net.

The visitors looked out of sorts and McCann beat John Sheridan in the air with ease again to knock the ball for Andrew to stroke a perfectly paced pass to match the alert Lynass’s run into the box only for Grindlay to be well placed to catch his shot.

bb_DSC_6322.JPG

Kyle McAusland and Paul Haggarty

Another great touch from Andrew found McCann at the left-hand corner of the penalty box and after further progress was blocked, he rolled the ball back to Lynass to curl the ball to the far side of the six-yard box for Orsi to take on defender and keeper and win a corner kick. Lynass played it short to the edge of the six yard where Orsi clipped it goalward only for his shot to be deflected inches wide for another corner. On this occasion Lynass played it high into the box where Sheridan headed it clear. The ball was quickly recovered by Marlow and with a peach of a pass picked out Lynass tight on the left touchline to float a ball into the box which after going through a ruck of players fell for Mick McCann to rifle the ball into the roof of the net from 3 yards out. Glens 2-0 up after 39 minutes.

aa_a_goal02c.JPG

Mick McCann makes it 2-0

Two minutes later Beith showed their teeth when Frize’s close-range effort came off the base of the post and Kyle McAusland was on hand to clear the ball to safety. The big defender was less fortunate in the last action of the half.

Bradley appeared to be chasing a lost cause when hunting down a ball on the right which was being ushered out of play by McChesney only for the Beith midfielder to arrive in the nick of time to whip the ball across the face of goal where it cannoned off the back of McAusland and into the net past the wrong-footed McGarrity for an unfortunate own goal.

Kenny McLean sent McGarrity the wrong way from the spot and incredibly the Glens having dominated for most of the match were pegged back to 2-2 on 48 minutes.

aa_a_goal03a.JPG

Mick McCann restores Glens lead

Both sides had a couple of half chances before the Glens restored their lead on 57 minutes. Marlow rode the tackle from Jamie Wilson on the outskirts of the box before slipping the ball between two defenders for Mick McCann to get the jump on Sheridan and then stretch to guide the ball beyond the advancing keeper and into the far corner of the net.

bb_DSC_6725.JPG

Joe Andrew slips ball to Mick McCann adjudged offside before he ‘scores’.

Three minutes later it was Andrew’s turn to feed McCann with a defence splitting pass into the box and again the striker appeared to get the better of Sheridan before drilling a low angled shot into the same corner of the net; only for the offside flag to curtail the celebrations.

The visitors then enjoyed a good spell of pressure. Midway through the half McLean’s angled shot stretched the side netting. Soon after Frize’s fine run into the box and cut-back for Haggarty in the six-yard was intercepted and cleared by McAusland. Back came Beith down the right flank with Wilson slipping the ball to Christie and as he pushed forward to the edge of the box Marlow’s tackle earned him a second yellow card and an early bath.

bb_DSC_6820.JPG

Beith celebrate equaliser

The free-kick that followed was met by Paul Frize and the ball whizzing past McGarrity ay his near post. The match all square again at 3-3 on 70 minutes with Glens down to 10 men.

With 15 minutes to go Glens brought on striker Chris Dallas for midfielder Dale Moore.

bb_DSC_6856

Glens protest

A minute later McLean picked out Christie in space on the right-hand side of the box and continued his run into the box. Christie took a touch or two before lashing the ball which flew into the net but adjudged to have done via a touch from McLean on a offside position. As the dust settled Haggarty was shown a second yellow card, presumably for protesting the decision, and it was now 3-3 and ten-a-side.

Both sides went in search of an equaliser with the home side coming closest to finding one. Dallas from the half-way line chased down a long through ball only for the outrushing Grindlay to slide out his six-yard box to push the ball away from the feet of the Glens striker. The keeper then stood firm to safely grab the ball from the feet of Park as he surged into the six-yard box.

GLENS KNOCK THREE TIMES

Glens travelled to Townhead to face a Cumnock side under new management after the departure of boss Peter Leonard following a string of poor results including a 7-1 loss at home to Largs Thistle last Saturday. Taking over the hot seat as player/manager is local lad Paul Burns supported by Stephen McKenna as player/coach , Scott McCulloch coach and the legendary former keeper  Bill Bentley.

The Glens made an early breakthrough after Cammy Marlow (bottom left) picked up from where he left off last week after netting on 5 minutes. It proved to be the only goal of the half as the visitors continued to dominate.

HT Nock 0 Glens 1

Chances kept coming the New Cumnock side’s way and Joe Andrew (below middle) doubled their lead on the hour mark. Mick McCann (below right) added a third five minutes later as Glens completed the league double over their neighbours to climb to third place in the table with half their league matches now completed.

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 2 (0) HURLFORD UNITED 2 (0)

Glenafton were still without top goalscorer Cris Dallas, captain Craig Menzies, Chris Cummins, Dale Moore and Connor Lynass leaving a bench of three of Alan Cairns, assistant manager Craig Potter and keeper Craig Burns.

Hurlford last visited Loch Park in the opening game of the season which ended in a 2-2 draw with the Glens winning the penalty shoot-out for the bonus point in the West  Regional Sectional Cup. They return today as league leaders with the outstanding record of 13 wins from 14 games, having lost only to Kilwinning Rangers.

Both sides made the most of the difficult conditions and keepers were on top as the chances came and went at both ends. Although the visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of these it was Hurlford’s keeper that pulled off the save of the half from a powerful angled shot from Joe Andrew. HT Glens 0 Hurlford 0

Hurlford broke the deadlock soon after the break. A quick throw from former Glens striker Michael Reilly caught the Glens on the back foot as the ball was quickly taken to the bye-lie and whipped to the near-post for the inrushing Ryan Caddis to guide the ball home. Reilly then played a defence splitting ball into the box to set up Caddis for what looked like a certain second only for keeper Brian McGarrity to pull off a great block and Kyle McAusland win the battle to snap up the rebound with brilliantly timed tackle deep in the box.

At the other end Dan Orsi’s drive to the bye-line ended with his cut back across goal almost inadvertently being turned into his own goal by defender Chris Robertson only for the keeper at full stretch getting a safe finger-tip to the ball.

Leon Murphy

The hosts drew level with a wonderfully worked goal. Darren McLean just inside his own half rolled a short pass forward for Mick McCann to clip the ball sideways to Findlay Frye who instantly threaded a forward ball through a number of defenders for Leon Murphy to chase down and gather at the edge of the box before firing a low angled shot that beat the outstretched arm of the keeper on its way into the net at the back post.

Murphy’s mazy run from deep in his own half ended with a crunching tackle 30 yards from goal and McAusland free-kick whizzing inches wide of the post.

Hurlford regained the lead with a stunning strike from Caddis after a throw-in from the left was cleared to the edge of the box where the ‘Ford stiker cracked an unstoppable shot beyond McGarrity.

aa_a_cameronmarlow00

Cameron Marlow

Both teams continued to attack and as the minutes ticked away it was the hosts that conjured up a late and deserved equaliser. A goal mouth scramble ended with the ball falling for Cammy Marlow a yard inside a packed box with the keeper bearing down on him. The Glens midfielder kept his cool to laser the ball past the hapless goalie and through a congregation of yellow shirts in the six yard box to spark off home celebrations as it re-emerged into view before bulging the net. LONGMUIR LOKS OUT LUCKLESS GLENS

There was little between Glenafton and Pollok in last week’s goalless draw in the Macron Scottish Junior Cup 4th round tie at Loch Park and so it proved today again in the replay at Newlandsfield.  With top goalscorer Chris Dallas and captain Craig Menzies still out through injury the Glens started with the same eleven. They started brightly enough without creating any clear-cut chances from either open play or the several set pieces earned from fouls committed by the home side on the outskirts of the box. However it was Pollok that opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a well-worked goal. Play was switched from left to right before Shaun Fraser played a one-two with Bryan Young in the box and after driving to the bye-line cut the ball across the face of goal for the incoming Stefan McCluskey to pick his spot from close range.

The home side spurred on by the opener looked the livelier going forward as the pressed for a second albeit without success. Indeed they had keeper Jordan Longmuir to thank for preserving their lead going into the break after he pushed Joe Andrew’s low drilled shot from 20 yards wide for a corner-kick via the outside of the post. Although Lok were quick out the blocks after the restart and create a couple of half chances the Glens levelled the cup-tie on 51 minutes. Darren McLean, wide on the right, picked out Joe Andrew on the corner of the penalty box to roll the ball to Conor Lynass tucked tightly on the touchline where he whipped the ball deep into box for Leon Murphy to glance a header beyond the reach of keeper.

The Glens looked the more threatening of the sides for the remainder of the half with Findlay Frye going close and a shot from Murphy whizzing wide of the post. At the other end Danny Boyle’s header from a corner kick slipped inches wide of the target and the match ended in stalemate. FT Pollok 1 Glens 1

The penalty shoot-out was over in a flash as Jordan Longmuir emerged as the home hero saving the Glens first three penalties from Mick McCann, Dale Moore and Darren McLean while the home side despatched their three kicks to win 3-0.

Macron Sottish Junior Cup | 4th Round

Loch Park, New Cumnock

Glenafton welcomed Pollok to Loch Park for their Macron Scottish Junior Cup 4th round tie in what was the ninth occasion that the two sides have been drawn to face each other in the national competition. Injuries impacted on the starting line ups for both sides with the hosts missing top goal-scorer Chris Dallas and captain Craig Menzies, both of whom will be side-lined for some weeks.

The Glens were first to threaten as Leon Murphy gathered a flick-on from Joe Andrew to bomb down the left with a squadron of black and white defenders in pursuit. The young midfielder had progressed to the corner of the six yard box before the back-tracking Paul Gallagher made a timely intervention and the chance was gone.

The visitors countered with a quick break down the left ending with Stuart McCann lashing a vicious angled shot from the 18 yard line which was finger-tipped wide by keeper Brian McGarrity, who had advanced to the edge of his six yard box. The corner-kick was played to Ryan McGregor at the near post where his shot was blocked at the expense of another corner which was duly cleared.

Back came Glens through Alan Cairns finding Ryan McChesney who switched play from left to right with a long ball for Conor Lynass that was intercepted and headed wide by the head of Danny Boyle. The corner kick was mopped up and Pollok were back on the offensive.

On 10 minutes former Glens striker David Gormley, who was having little joy in the Glens’ box, won a free-kick some 30 yards out that was floated into the box by Brian Young and although McGregor won the aerial battle his header was safely gathered by McGarrity .

Although clear-cut chances were thin on the ground the visitors passing was much sharper than that of their hosts whose possession was often surrendered by a stray pass.

On 16 minutes Murphy’s low corner from the left was knocked on at the front of the six yard box by Andrew and the loose ball cleared to initiate a counter-attack down the right by Stefan McCluskey which concluded with the award of a free-kick against McChesney close to the corner. McCluskey clipped the ball to the back post where McGregor’s looping header pulled off a great save from McGarrity finger-tipping the ball away from the postage-stamp of his goal.  The keeper got both hands on Young’s corner-kick and captain Kyle McAusland cleared the loose ball.

Pollok manufactured three half-chances in a two-minute spell without however testing the keeper – Gormley’s effort from 20 yards flew high and wide of the target; McCluskey skewed his shot from the edge of the box well wide of the post and McCann’s strike from inside the box sailed over the bar.

The Glens enjoyed the lion’s share of the chances in the closing quarter-of-an-hour of the half with Findlay Frye and Dale Moore asserting themselves in the middle of the park.  The pressure almost paid off on 39 minutes when Mick McCann, deep in the box,  got between the two centre backs to power a header for the top corner only for keeper Jordan Longmuir to leap and push the ball round the post.

The corner kick was only partially cleared and the ball quickly recovered by Murphy who played a slick one-two with Andrew before driving into the left hand side of the box and drilling a low angled shot that although beat the diving Longmuir it rolled wide of the back post.

In the last action of the half Moore slipped the ball to Lynass wide on the right to whip a vicious ball into the six yard box beyond the reach of the defenders for the incoming Frye at the back post only for the former Pollok player to miss making contact by a stud.

The home side were quick of the mark winning back-to-back corner kicks within a minute of the restart. Pollok countered with a corner of their own which was cleanly clutched at the back post by McGarrity.

The scene was set for the rest of the half as played flowed from end-to-end in determined fashion albeit with little reward in terms of goal scoring chances.

Conor Lynass in control

On 51 minutes Frye chased down a fine ball through the middle from Lynass only for the back-tracking Boyle to make a timely tackle at the edge of the box at the expense of a throw-in. Glens continued to press through Darren McLean on the overlap down the right to fire a ball to the back post where Grant Evans’ clearing header fell for Frye to lash a shot from 15 yards which rebounded off the back of McGregor and the loose ball cleared.

Pollok brought on Ewan McNeil for Danny Boyle, after the big centre back hadn’t recovered from a bad knock late in the first half.

The visitors floated a free kick from wide on the left deep into the box where McCann under pressure from McChesney headed well over the bar.

On the hour mark Murphy won a corner on the left which was headed clear by Gallagher and the ball quickly gathered by Moore to fire a shot from the corner of the box that was still on the rise as it flew over the bar.

On 62 minutes Pollok replaced David Gormley with Adam Forde as play had entered a scrappy period with neither side creating any openings of note. Ten minutes later Glens brought on Dan Orsi for Conor Lynass.

Darren McLean’s free kick from 22 yards out saw Longmuir get down low to push the ball past the post for another corner-kick that came to nothing.

Mick McCann challenges

Pollok made their final substitution bringing on Shaun Fraser for Stuart McCann as the game entered that phase of ‘a goal the winner’ in a Scottish Junior Cup tie. Fraser was instantly in the thick of the action. He gathered a ball chested down by Forde before driving for the bye-line to square the ball into the six yard box which was blocked by McChesney only for Forde to pounce on the loose ball to thump a first time shot which thundered off the chest of McGarrity and although the loose ball fell for Young he couldn’t find the target.

On 82 minutes Glens brought on Ally Park for Darren McLean in a final push for a winner. McAuland from deep in his own half launched a free kick into the box which was headed on by Orsi and it was Longmuir rushing from his line that caught the descending ball preventing Andrew putting the final touch to the move.

Jordam Longmuir beats Joe Andrew to the ball

McGarrity showed a clean pair of hands at the other end when he leapt head and shoulders above all others to pluck a corner-kick out the air as the Pollok defenders lined up at the back post.

Into added timed and Pollok won a free kick on the outskirts of the left-hand side of the penalty box. Young’s kick was headed high into the air by Frye and McGarrity judged its descent perfectly to capture the ball as Evans threatened. In last action of the match McCann picked out Orsi who did well to give a defender the slip to set up a shot from just outside the box which Longmuir smothered safely.
