CLYDEBANK 1 (0) GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 2 (1)

Glens travelled to face 2nd top Clydebank in their current temporary lodgings of Lochburn Park, home of Maryhill FC mindful that Kieran McAnespie’s side won the corresponding fixture at Loch Park earlier in the season. The visitors made one change from the starting eleven that defeated Kilwinning Rangers last week with matchwinner Dan Orsi replacing the injured Ryan McChesney and the defence suitably reshuffled.

It was the Glens that came close to opening the scoring with a lightning break after Chris Dallas nicked the ball from Jamie Docherty deep in the Glens half. The striker promptly passed the ball to Orsi wide on the right flank for the midfielder to drive forward before chipping the ball into the box where Findlay Frye’s excellently executed header dropped perfectly for Dallas arriving in the D who couldn’t have struck the ball any sweeter only for keeper Marc Waters to pull off a stunning save to tip the ball over the bar.

aa_a_dalemoore00Soon after on 28 minutes the Glens made the breakthrough with again Dallas the initiator of the build-up play. Just inside his own half he intercepted a weak pass from Liam Rowan and picked out former Bankie Joe Andrew in the centre circle who rolled the ball to Orsi wide on the right before advancing to the outskirts of the right hand side of the box to receive the return pass and cutely clip it into the path of Dale Moore to unleash an unstoppable dipping shot over Waters and into the net from 25 yards.

Bankies drew level on 53 minutes after Andy Paterson deep down the left flank took a quick throw to Del Hepburn who slipped the ball back to Paterson to whip a wicked cross to the back post for Jordan Shelvey and although keeper Brian McGarrity pushed clear what seemed to be a net-bound header, Shelvey reacted quickly to contort his body and leap to head home at the second attempt.

aa_leonmurphy00Glens finished the game on the front foot. Waters pulled off a fine two footed save from Leon Murphy’s shot from inside the box after Orsi gathering a glorious pass from Orsi. However, with 3 minutes to go Leon Murphy wasn’t to be denied. Substitute Mick McCann’s header killed the ball on the half-way line before he hooking a long high ball down the left where Murphy showed two defenders a clean pair of heels and let the ball take a bounce before nodding it into the box and then let it take another bounce before lobbing it high into the air and over the advancing keeper into the welcoming net.
