Glens kicked off facing the club-house with a strong wind at their back. Although the home side were on the front foot for most of the half, clear-cut chances were very much at a premium. Their best chance came on 17 minutes through a determined run deep into the box by Dale Moore only for keeper Adam Strain to clean;y hold the cut back across the face of goal. Kilwinning enjoyed a good spell of pressure in the closing ten minutes of the half keeping the Glens defence on their toes. It was during another spell of some stout defending that Glens lost central defender Ryan McChesney to a hamstring injury. He was replaced by midfielder Dan Orsi and the defence reshuffled.

The visitors, now with wind at their backs, began the second half brightly and forced a series of corners during which passage of play Alan Cairns made a great block on a close range shot from Ryan Nisbet and Kyle McAusland outleaped Bryan Boylan to prevent the Buffs striker heading home t the back post. Glens responded through a couple of attacks down the right by Orsi , with the first cross dipping over the bar and the second headed clear. Back came Buffs and a free-kick floated into the box .

On 67 minutes the Glens made the breakthrough with a well worked goal.  Leon Murphy played a ball down the left for Chris Dallas to chase down in the box and with his route to goal blocked by Craig Pettigrew he rolled the ball back to Murphy to whip a wonderful ball to the unmarked Dan Orsi on the far side off the box to kill the ball before drilling it home from 9 yards out.

The home side continued to press and the visitors did themselves no favour on 82 minutes after defender Joe Coleman pulled backed substitute Mick McMcCann and lost the place at the award of the free-kick, earning a straight red card.  in the last-minute of the regulation 90 minutes Carlo Monti came close to carving out an equaliser through a well executed overhead kick from deep in the box.
