Glenafton’s hopes of repeating last season’s league double over a Pollok side which introduced a host of new faces during the close season suffered a blow on 28 minutes when midfielder David Gray was shown a red card for a late challenge of Ross Brash on the outskirts of the box. The home side had enjoyed much of the play and the better of the chances created up until that time.

Nevertheless the 10 men were coping admirably when the visitors took the lead on 40 minutes through former Kilbirnie striker Adam Forde. A cross deep into the box from Mark Siderserf saw keeper Brian McGarrity and two players from each side attempt to win the aerial battle for the ball only for it to break free and spark a goal-line scramble of bodies at the near post that ended with Ryan McGregor releasing it to Forde for a tap in at the far post.

The tenacious ten squared matters a minute late. Jamie McKernon floated a corner kick to the outskirts of the penalty box for Kyle McAusland to send a header deep into the box where keeper Jordan Muir could only punch a few yards clear into the path of Ryan McChesney who killed the ball on his right knee before lasering a left footer home from 10 yards.

H/T Glens 1 Pollok 1

Longmuir’s punching was more effective after the break when he got both fists to McKernon’s vicious corner kick to clear it from under the bar.  The keeper then pulled off another fine save after some excellent build up play by McAusland and a dummy by Dale Moore ended with a curling shot from Joe Andrew being pushed away by Longmuir who stayed alert to force Mick McCann to fire the rebound wide of target.

At the other end McGarrity pulled off the save of the match. Forde with his back to goal killed Evan’s knock-on dead on his chest before hooking a flashing shot over his shoulder which forced the keeper at full stretch to push the ball onto the post which was them cleared for a corner.

The ten men continued to look comfortable in possession and create chance with Andrew’s angled shot from the left-hand corner of the box whizzed wide of the post.

At the other end the ball fell for substitute Del Hepburn on the outskirts of the Glens’ box and although he curled his shot between two defenders the ball crashed off the base of the post.

Back came Glens and McAusland’s howitzer of a free-kick from 30 yards out thundered past Longmuir’s post. Lok responded through Evans with another dangerous cross deep into the box and although Stuart McCann’s header ended in the net the goal was disallowed for impeding keeper McGarrity as he jumped to gather the ball.

In the closing minute the ten men were still pushing for a winner only to lose possession allowing the visitors to break upfield release Hepburn for a free run before the back-tracking McChesney tripped him before he breached the Glens’ box. A straight red card reduced the Glens to nine men. Wharton’s attempt to curl home the free kick for a certain winner was headed clear by McAusland who then cleared the resulting corner-kick in the last action in an eventful match.

IT’S JOY OVER ROVERS AS AFTON ADVANCE IN THE “BIG SCOTTISH”

Having accounted for Newton Stewart and then Golspie Sutherland in the preliminary rounds of the William Hill Scottish Cup Glenafton welcomed Threave Rovers to Loch Park in the so-called 1st round ‘proper’ of the competition. There was an extra special welcome for Rovers’ centre back Liam Patterson who had played with the Glens team in 2005/06 that won the Ayrshire League Cup and West of Scotland Cup and was recently rewarded with a testimonial match after 10 seasons with the Castle Douglas side.

Unavailable for Glenafton were top goalscorer Chris Dallas (with six goals in the preliminary rounds) and midfielders David Gray and Cameron Marlow.

The hosts were first to show when Jamie McKernon’s free-kick into the box was partially cleared and the ball fell for Dale Moore on the edge of the box to fire a shot that slipped wide of the post.  Soon after Kyle McAusland, wide on the right, played a slick one-two with Joe Andrew before driving for the bye-line and clipping the ball across the face of goal only for keeper Jake Gemmell to get the slightest of touches to prevent the ball reaching target Dale Moore waiting to head home at the back post.  McAusland and Andrew combined again to set up a Conor Lynass shot that was well held by the keeper.

Glens made the breakthrough on 9 minutes ironically after Threave had settled into the match and had begun to stroke the ball about the park.  Six or seven passes were strung together by the visitors before an under-hit pass was intercepted by Mick McCann who slipped the ball to Joe Andrew in the right-hand corner of the penalty box. The striker quickly cut the ball back to Ally Park who skipped past two defenders before picking out McCann’s run finished off the move with a low drilled shot that found the net beyond the reach of the outstretched arms of Gemmell.

Rovers tried to respond through top goalscorer Roman Soltys. Running on to a through ball he held off centre back Ryan McChesney to forge his way to the edge of the box only for his shot at goal to be comfortably held by keeper Brian McGarrity.

Back came Glenafton with a fine move involving both full-backs and both strikers. It began wide on the left with Alan Cairns crossing the ball to the back post where Andrew gathered and fed McAusland on the right to chip the ball into the goal mouth where McCann’s header from 8 yards appeared net-bound only for the gallant Gemmell to pull off a stunning save. The keeper foiled another McCann header with a strong one-handed save after the striker’s late run to the edge of the six-yard box to connect with McKernon’s corner-kick. A hat-trick of saves soon followed with Gemmell cleanly clutching McCann’s looping header.

Undeterred McCann’s efforts were finally rewarded and on 36 minutes he doubled his and the Glens tally.  McKernon snapped up a clearance on the half way line and drove forward before picking out McCann on the edge of the ‘d’ who squared to Lynass at the far corner of the box who took a touch before whipping a low ball into the heart of the goalmouth for McCann to slide in and guide the ball past the helpless keeper.

McCann and Moore then combined to take the ball deep into the penalty box and with the hat-trick on the cards the striker miscued his shot from the edge of the six-yard box. Moore then picked up a pass from Andrew before advancing to the left-hand corner of the six yard box and although his shot beat the keeper the ball dipped over the bar.

The visitors enjoyed an encouraging start to the second half. A corner kicked was cleared and the ball gathered up by player-manager Scott Wilby just inside the Glen half. After pushing forward, he did well to get his shot on target from all of 35 yards which took a bounce in the box off the wet surface before McGarrity got down to hold it cleanly. Struan Parker floated a free kick from the middle of the park into a busy box where Soltys was first to react and with a fantastic touch guided the ball goalward only for it to bounce off the chest of McGarrity and the loose ball instantly cleared behind by captain Craig Menzies; the resulting corner coming to nothing. A long kick upfield by keeper Gemmell was killed on the chest by Soltys at the edge of the box and the played back to Parker who launched a daisy-cutter from 30 yards that whizzed inches wide of the post.

On the hour mark however Threave fell further behind after some customary play from Joe Andrew. McGarrity’s goal kick was headed on my McCann and gathered by Andrew with his back to goal and with Bryce Wilson for company. He deftly turned the big defender before driving for the box with Wilson giving chase and 20 yards out unleashed a left footed-shot that bounced on the six yard line and over the diving keeper.

Glens continued to press and Moore set up Lynass with a close-range header that was well held by the keeper. Lynass returned the favour and after a mazy run from the right flank to the far side of the penalty box he took out four defenders with a killer pass that was cutely controlled by Moore before he thumped a low angled shot from 10 yards that was brilliantly blocked by the feet of Gemmell.

Rovers responded through Dan Thom who picked out substitute Ben Irving wide on the left and although his cross into the box was met by a powerful downward header from Soltys the ball cannoned off the feet of Ryan McChesney deep in the six yard box and was mopped up by McGarrity.

Another upfield clearance by McGarrity was headed on by McCann, gathered by Andrew who quickly dispatched the ball to Lynass whose quick feet left the Rovers defence mesmerised before digging out a shot from the 18 yard line that was plucked out the air by Gemmell.

Ten minutes from time Glenafton completed the scoring. McAusland stormed down the right-wing and whipped the ball into the box for incoming substitute Ryan Borris only for Wilson to get a clearing header. The ball fell for Dale Moore struck the ball sweetly on the drop with his left foot from the edge of the box and although Gemmell blocked it he could do nothing to stop the Glens midfielder stroke the loose ball home with his right foot.

Further half chances fell for both sides through shots from Lynass and Soltys before the final whistle and Glenafton’s progress to the William Hill Scottish Cup 3rd Round where later in the afternoon they were drawn away from home to face Highland League side Deveronvale.

There was no quarter given in this high temp match. Glens came within a whisker of taking an early lead after Darren McGill leapt between to defenders to loop a powerful header that beat the keeper before crashing over the bar. Chris Lennon put the hosts ahead on 9 minutes after cleverly killing a ball from the right into box before turning hooking his shot low into the corner of the net. Glens drew level on 56 minutes with a goal made and finished by David Gray. The midfielder quickly retrieved the ball after his free-kick from 25 yards crashed of the wall and chipped it into corner of the six yard box for Joe Andrew to trap and hold expertly before rolling it back to Gray who then threaded the ball between two defenders and into the corner of the net beyond the reach of the keeper.

GLENAFTON HIT BACK TO HIT GALLANT GOLSPIE FOR SIX

Glenafton played host to Golspie Sutherland of the North Caledonian League in the 2nd Preliminary Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

In a strangely subdued first-half the Glens never really got going against a well organised Golspie side that looked very comfortable on the ball and yet had by the far created the bulk of chances on show before visitors took the lead through an own goal on 15 minutes.

As early as two minutes Conor Lynass gathered the ball on the left before cutting inside and cracking a shot from 22 yards into the bread basket of keeper Graeme Williamson. Two minutes later Chris Dallas attempt to angle a close-range effort in at the far post ended with one defender kicking the ball from his keeper’s and another ushering it safely back to the goalie as Joe Andrew threatened. On 7 minutes Andrew was brought down on the outskirts of the box and David Gray’s flashed a free-kick from 25 yards that threatened to rip the side netting with the keeper a spectator.

David Gray’s free kick goes inches wide

The lively Lynass showed MacNab a clean pair of heels only to have them clicked and this time Gray’s free kick from 22 yards was well held by Williamson. Soon after Andrew’s cross from wide on the right was cleanly clutched under the bar by Williamson as Dallas challenged.

On 14 minutes Golspie earned a corner kick on the left that was whipped into the goalmouth and cleared at the expense of another kick from the right which was plucked out the air by keeper Brian McGarrity as MacNab closed in.  A minute later a determined run by a Golspie striker (No 18) into box saw him shake off a couple of Glens defenders and as he tried to slip the ball past the advancing McGarrity in stepped Kyle McAusland to clear only to send the ball into the net via Conor Lynass.

Golspie take the lead

Glens tried hit back immediately with a couple of attacks that were doggedly defended before MacNab countered down the left-wing with a good run and cross into the box that was cut out by Gray. The visitors were forced to make a change with Jacob Lockette coming on for a striker (No. 18).

Midway through the half Dallas gave Jordan Sutherland in the box to fire an angled shot from the corner of the six-yard box that whizzed wide of the post albeit the keeper had his near post well cover. Three minutes later Sutherland barged into Dallas’s back to set up another Gray free-kick that blasted from 25 yards and thundered off the post with the goalie well beaten.

Jamie McKernon broough down in the box

Both sides exchanged corner-kicks that were mopped up before Glens forced back-to-back corners the ended in a similar fashion. The home side continued to press and Jamie McKernon held off a defender to break into the box and slip by Sutherland only for Ewan Murray to slide in and bring down the Glens midfielder. Chris Dallas lashed home the penalty kick to level the tie on 39 minutes.

aa_a_goal_01.JPG

Chris Dallas makes it 1-1 from the spot

Lynass carved out another chance only for his sweetly struck shot from 22 yards to be deflected wide for a corner kick which Gray clipped into the box and Mick McCann’s header looped over the bar. In the closing action of the half Andrew’s cut back from the bye-line was met by Lynass on the edge of the six-yard box and he seemed certain to score only for Williamson to make a great save with an outstretched leg to guide the ball wide of the post. At the other end McGarrity had to be quick off the mark to clear a ball as MacNab and Lockette closed in.

H/T Glens 1 Golspie 1

The home side began the half with much greater sense of purpose and were immediately on the front foot with early attacks down both flanks before being rewarded with an early goal. Andrew along with the indefatigable Sutherland challenged for the ball and as both players tumbled to the ground the ball fell for Dallas to run unimpeded into the box, draw the keeper from his line before placing his shot from 7 yards that clipped off the inside of the near post sending the ball into the far corner of the net. The home side now 2-1 up after 48 minutes.

aa_a_goal_02.JPG

Chris Dallas shot clips off the post and into the net

Three minutes later Alan Cairns and Andrew combined well in the box to set Dallas for a tap-in at the box but the big striker did so from a offside position.  However, the Dallas hat-trick did arrive on 56 minutes. Andrew slipped the ball to McKernon deep in the box who then skipped past two defenders to forge his way to the near post before clipping the ball past the keeper and along the face of the goalmouth for Dallas to take a touch before firing home for three yards out.

aa_a_goal_03.JPG

Chris Dallas fires home his hat-trick 3-1

The visitors now looked all but out on their feet as tired legs struggled to maintain the disciplined defending of the first half while Glens showed no intent to take their feet of the gas. Indeed, the home side brought on the fresh legs of Ally Park in place of Kyle McAusland and he was soon in the thick of it breaking down a rare Golspie attack that Craig Menzies quickly mopped up.

Back came Glens and Lynass fashioned an angled shot from inside the box that was well held by Williamson. On 71 minutes, tired legs may have contributed to a defensive slip that allowed Dallas to nick the ball wide on the left before cutting into the box and wrong footing the advancing keeper to drill a low shot into the gaping net from 16 yards out. After stringing a quartet of goals together the big striker was immediately replaced with Darren McGill and left the field with the now vocal Afton army singing his praises.

aa_a_goal_04

Chris Dallas makes it 4-1

Three minutes later Jamie McKernon broke into the box and with three defenders closing in from behind he perfectly timed his shot to beat the keeper from the six-yard line.

aa_a_goal_05

Jamie McKernon slots home  and its 5-1

With 15 minutes remaining while Gray waited to deliver another corner-kick Glens made their final substitution with Ryan McChesney making way Iain McKnight. Gray’s kick was met by the head of McCann at the near post and the ball only partially cleared giving the striker a second bite at the cherry to turn and shoot from close range only for Williamson to pull off a wonderful save with quick feet.  The keeper could do little to stop McCann completing the scoring on 84 minutes. A ball from the left floated to the far-side of the box was trapped perfectly by Lynass before he hooked the ball inside for McCann to gather and stab the ball home from 4 yards.

aa_a_goal_06.JPG

Mick McCann completes the scoring 6-1

After a difficult first half the Glens proved too strong for Golspie in the second half and its the New Cumnock side’s name that went into the hat for the William Hill Scottish Cup 1st round prepare that was made later that day.

Glens will host Glasgow University or Threave Rovers.

Glenafton took the lead on 8 minutes after a passage flowing football from deep in their own half to the outskirts of their opponents’ box where Conor Lynass tried his luck with a low drilled shot from 20 yards only for it to be blocked by a defender after which Cameron Marlow challenged for the loose ball to send in spinning into the air and Lynass on hand to flick it the way of Joe Andrew to lash a low angled shot home. Marlow didn’t recover from the tackle and was replaced by Chris Dallas. The home side dominated the rest of the half with further chances coming the way of Mick McCann, Andrew, Dallas and Lynass and the woodwork coming to the aid of ‘Ford.

The visitors best chances came at the beginning and the end of the second half with the Glens enjoying the period of play in between with chances for Andrew. Dallas and sub Iain McKnight. In the closing minutes Brian McGarrity pulled off a fine save from a close range header to prevent the penalty shoot-out and ensure Glens progressed to the final

Glenafton run of 11 straight wins (which included 3 games at the close of last season) ended abruptly at Beith in a heavy 5-0 defeat.

It literally was an uphill battle for the Glens in the first half as the home side attacked down the slope in some style. Ross McPherson turned in the box to flash home a Darren Christie to open the scoring on 4 minutes. McPherson bagged his brace seven minutes later after heading home McGowan’s free kick.  Beith continued to press and it was 3-0 on 30 minutes with David McGowan’s free-kick the source and former Auchinleck player Kier Milliken the finisher. Another header, this time from Mark McLaughlin, made it 4-0 and completed the scoring in the first half without Stephen Grindlay in the Beith goal having been seriously tested.

H/T Beith 4 Glens 0

The visitors fashioned an early chance after the break only for McLaughlin’s tackle preventing Mick McCann from finishing with a shot at goal. Strike partner Chris Dallas did get a shot away but it whizzed wide of target. McPherson completed his hat-trick on the hour mark after smashing a free-kick into the roof of the net. With the outcome of the game in no doubt the tempo dropped and there would be no further scoring, however more pain came the Glens way after Kyle McAusland received a yellow card.  F/T Beith 5 Glens 0

In an action packed game both sides created decent chances in the opening encounters the best of which fell to the home side including a Chris Dallas shot from inside the box that was brilliantly saved by the Craigmark keeper Matthew McClymont and later a Mick McCann header from a free kick crashed off the base of the post before Ryan Borris’s attempt to thunder home the rebound was cleared off the line. At the other end Brian McGarrity comfortably saved two shots from distance before a header at the back post sneaked wide of target with the keeper beaten.

Chris Dallas

There was an element of good fortune when the Glens opened the scoring on 29 minutes after Chris Dallas’s cross from tight on the right wing aimed for McCann at the back post sailed over the keeper’s head and into the net. No luck involved when Dallas doubled the Glens lead three minutes later the striker allowing a cross from Darren McGill on the left to bounce twice on the far side of the box before unleashing an unstoppable left-footed volley into the roof of the net. McClymont then pulled off a another super save after McCann’s turn and shot in the box.  H/T Glens 2 Craigmark 0

The Dalmellington side made a positive start to he second half and earned a free kick just outside the box and although it cannoned off the wall the chase to retrieve the ball ended with a trip in the box and spot-kick for Craigmark. Unfortunately Scott Dempster lost his footing and skewed his shot from 12 yards wide of the post. To rub salt in the wounds Chris Dallas completed his hat-trick with another wonder strike meeting a corner-kick full on the volley with his  right foot to send the ball screaming into the roof of the net.

Cameron Marlow

Substitute Cameron Marlow made in 4-0 after a powerful run through the middle before being dispossessed at the edge of the box only for McCann to recover the ball and roll it back to Marlow to clip it over the keeper’s head from the 18 yard line. Marlow then added a fifth after picking up a fine pass from Jamie McKernon on the outskirts of the box before chipping another ball from the 18 yard line that ended in the net via the underside of the crossbar. Credit to Craigmark they continued to look for a consolation and McGarrity was forced into a saving a close range header pulled off a brilliant save from a shot within the six yard box.

The home side made it 6-0 after good work down the left by McCann to pick out Dale Moore’s run into the box for the substitute to slip past two defenders and his shot deflect off the advancing keeper before finding the net despite a defender’s valiant attempt to clear it off the line.  In the closing minutes players from both sides lined up the box awaiting the delivery of David Gray’s free kick from the right only for the midfielder to play it back to McKernon who quickly passed to Kyle McAusland on the left hand corner of the penalty box where the defender took a touch or two before lashing a shot into the far corner of the net. On the 19thAugust 1307 the standard of Edward II was raised at Cumnock Castle that stood on the castle-hill overlooking the meeting place of the Afton Water and River Nith.  The newly crowned King of England had marched his great army north in his quest to capture Robert the Bruce, King of Scots who had taken refuge in the hills of Glen Afton.

Today on the 19th August 2017, exactly 710 years later, Glenafton Athletic raised their treble winning standard at Loch Park, which lies sandwiched between the castle-hill and the River Nith. On this occasion the newly promoted Clydebank descended on New Cumnock to face the champions of Scotland and just as Edward had managed to purloin Bruce’s own sleuth-hound in an attempt to get one over on the King of Scots, the Bankies now had former Glenafton coach Kieran McAnespie at their head, hoping to sniff-out the Scottish champions weaknesses.

Thankfully only league points were at stake today and proceedings started with the age-old act of chivalry with the opponents forming a guard of honour to applaud the Champions onto the field of play while the Champions and their supporters respectfully acknowledged their genuine gesture.

Clydebank’s guard of honour for the champions

The battle lines drawn on a grey, wet day Clydebank quickly revealed their strategy, one of attack being the best form of defence, as their yellow shirts lit up the gloom like a hail of flaming arrows as they darted forward down both flanks. Within two minutes Glenafton’s captain Craig Menzies had to be sharp to block Jordan Shelvey’s angled volley from inside the left hand side of box and deflect the ball for a corner which was grabbed cleanly under the bar by keeper Brian McGarrity. Attacking full back Andy Paterson whipped a great ball in from the left for Ryan Deas to stoop and flash a header wide of the post on 4 minutes followed quickly by Josh Watt’s shot from the corner of the 18-yard box that flew over the bar as the Bankies continued to press.

Safe in the hands of Brian

The hosts rallied and although Chris Dallas outjumped his markers his header from a David Gray free-kick slipped wide of the post. Jamie Darroch then robbed Joe Andrew of the ball in the box at the expense of a corner-kick which was cleared by the big defender.  On 10 minutes Gray trapped in a pocket of three yellows dinked a superb ball into the box for Ally Park to chase down only for his brave cut-back from the dead-ball line to be smothered by keeper Josh Lumsden as Dallas closed in.

Possession was now more evenly balanced but play was scrappy with the strong wind not helping matters.

On 15 minutes defender Kyle McAusland gathered the ball on the right flank, deep in his own half, and like a human trebuchet catapulted the ball upfield over the Bankies defences where in anticipation Joe Andrew had already breached the self-same defences to let the ball bounce twice before calmly clipping it over the head of the keeper, who had advanced to edge of the box, and into the gaping net. This was the striker’s fourth goal in this fixture, the previous three coming in the colours of Clydebank.

1-0 Glenafton!

Darren McGill’s determined running style was proving a handful for the visitors and often a source of a set piece, and a free-kick opportunity for Gray. Having already floated a few into the box the Glens midfielder tried to catch Lumsden off guard with a low drive that slipped past the near post.

The visitors regained their composure with Shelvey leading the vanguard and Johnny Allan and Deas pulling the strings they created half a clutch of decent chances in a 20-minute spell. It began with Shelvey on 20 minutes his close-range header from a corner-kick glancing agonisingly inches wide of the post. The striker then drilled a low drive from 20 yards that was comfortably held by McGarrity.

On 32 minutes the keeper faced a greater test as Shelvey picked up a fine pass and broke into the box before trying to place his shot into the net only for McGarrity now on the penalty blocking it with his legs; the resulting corner-kick headed wide by Ross Forsyth.

Brian defies Jordan

Six minutes later Jamie McKernon brought a Deas run to an end at the expense of a free-kick on the edge of the ‘D’. Up stepped Watt, a summer signing from Cumnock, to curl a shot over the wall and beyond the reach of the keeper only for the ball to crash off the crossbar.

Josh hits the bar!

The Glens had created a couple of chances of their own during the Bankies onslaught through Ryan Boriss’s shot from outside the box that was blocked by a legion of legs while McKernon’s blast from 22 yards had Lumsden at full stretch to push the ball wide of the post; the resulting corner-kick cleared.

In the closing minutes of the half it was more a case of handbags than hand-to-hand combat as the troops from both sides gathered to contest a robust tackle and the reciprocated retaliation. The referee bringing the joust to a close with a yellow card apiece and dishonour even!

Following the half-time truce play resumed and with the strong wind continuing to frustrate both sides as they huffed and puffed and cancelled each other out. The first real chance fell on the hour mark to Shelvey after he showed great skill to shake off two defenders at the edge of the box and drive forward to sweetly strike a low angled shot from 8 yards out only for McGarrity to block it with an outstretched leg and pounce on the loose ball.

Shelvey v McGarrity

Reinforcements were introduced with the Bankies bringing on Ciaran Lafferty for Josh Watt while Glens followed suit soon after with Ryan Borris making way for Dale Moore.

On 63 minutes Lafferty slipped a fine pass to Deas on the edge of the box and rather than complete the one-two he turned a defender to fashion a powerful shot at goal that proved no match for the power of McGarrity’s gauntlets.

Midway through the half Glenafton came close to doubling their lead. Gray’s corner-kick was headed into the crowded goalmouth by Dallas where the ball was trapped by Andrew with his back to goal and yet, somehow, he engineered a shot that battered off the post before Moore tried not once but twice to bury the rebound but could not penetrate the schiltron of shirts of yellow.

Joe hits the post

At the other end a free kick 10 yards from the corner-flag was floated into the six yard box for Darroch only for the ball to be cleanly clutched from his head by the formidable McGarrity.

Glens brought on Cameron Marlow for David Gray in preparation for the final 20 minutes as the Bankies pressed for a precious equaliser. Shelvey sent another 20 yard shot whizzing wide of the post and minutes later Allan from the ‘D’ hooked a well struck shot that McGarrity clutched firmly on the line.

A final flurry of substitutions followed with the home side bringing on Mick McCann for Joe Andrew and the visitors replacing Phil Johnston with Reece Pearson and the gallant Jordan Shelvey with Chris Black.

In the closing minutes the two captains duelled in the Glens box as Menzies threw his body in front of Forsyth’s shot and the ball eventually deflected for a corner-kick that was headed clear by McKernon at the near post.
