- Bellsdale Park, Beith
- Saturday 26th August 2017
- BEITH JUNIORS 5 (4)
- McPherson 3, Milliken, McLaughlin
- GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 (0)
Glenafton run of 11 straight wins (which included 3 games at the close of last season) ended abruptly at Beith in a heavy 5-0 defeat.
It literally was an uphill battle for the Glens in the first half as the home side attacked down the slope in some style. Ross McPherson turned in the box to flash home a Darren Christie to open the scoring on 4 minutes. McPherson bagged his brace seven minutes later after heading home McGowan’s free kick. Beith continued to press and it was 3-0 on 30 minutes with David McGowan’s free-kick the source and former Auchinleck player Kier Milliken the finisher. Another header, this time from Mark McLaughlin, made it 4-0 and completed the scoring in the first half without Stephen Grindlay in the Beith goal having been seriously tested.

The visitors fashioned an early chance after the break only for McLaughlin’s tackle preventing Mick McCann from finishing with a shot at goal. Strike partner Chris Dallas did get a shot away but it whizzed wide of target. McPherson completed his hat-trick on the hour mark after smashing a free-kick into the roof of the net. With the outcome of the game in no doubt the tempo dropped and there would be no further scoring, however more pain came the Glens way after Kyle McAusland received a yellow card. F/T Beith 5 Glens 0
