Glens enjoyed the early pressure albeit without fashioning a serious attempt at goal. On 8 minutes Bankies came close only for Ryan Deas’s header to drift wide of the post. Two minutes later good attacking play down the left by Darren McGill saw him advance in the box and his attempt to pick out Joe Andrew in the box cut out by Jamie Darroch at the expense of a corner kick which was duly cleared. Glens surrendered possession in the centre circle allowing Josh Watt to break upfield and picked out Deas on the left who lost out to the back-tracking Ryan Borris to earn a corner-kick.  Watt floated the kick to edge of the six yard box where the unchallenged Deas glanced his header into far corner of the net to put the home side ahead on 13 minutes.

aa_DSC_2068.JPG

Ryan Borris failed to recover from an injury he picked up and on 18 minutes was replaced by Conor Lynass.

Play was frantic at times with the ball being battered about as possession changed from team without either keeper being tested. On 27 minutes defender Iain McKnight was shown a yellow card for tripping John Cunningham a few a yard from the bye-line and a yard more from the left hand side of the penalty box. On a move from the training ground Watt slipped a low free-kick to the near side of the six yard box for Cammy McClair but his first attempt was a fresh-air shot while his second was blocked by defender Alan Cairns to set up a counter attack by Glens that was broken down by Andy Paterson on the half-way line.  Back came Glens through Kyle McAusland’s clearance upfield that was headed on by McGill and then in turn by Chris Dallas to be picked up by Lynass only for his volley from the 18 yard line to fall comfortably into the hands of keeper Marc Waters.

aa_DSC_2077

Play continued at a place with no quarter given in the sunshine at Holm Park.  On 36 minutes the Glens won a free-kick on the right hand side of the outskirts of the box after Paterson kicked Moore on the back of the heel. Although McGill’s kick bounced off the defensive wall the ball fell for Cameron Marlow to blast a shot from 25 yards that flew inches wide of the post with the airborne keeper beaten. A minute later a mix up in the Glens defence left McGarrity stranded outside the corner of his six yard box leaving Cunningham and McKnight to battle for the ball in front of an empty net and it was the young defender that came out on top with a last-ditch tackle to hook the ball away.  Back upfield and Marlow tried his luck from 30 yards but this time the keeper could look on as the ball sailed wide of the target.

aa_DSC_2104

Tempers flared on 40 minutes as Moore and Ross Forsyth tussled on the ground after a robust tackle by the latter.  In terms of chances the Bankies had the last word in the first half with the Glens eventually clearing Watt’s corner-kick.

H/T Bankies 1 Glens 0

Within a minute of the restart the home side created the first chance of the new half with McClair’s close range glancing header from a Paterson cross easily held by McGarrity. Glens responded almost immediately through Dallas with a snapshot from outside the right-hand corner of the box which dropped safely into the arms of Waters. A minute later Marlow floated a ball deep into the box and Andrew’s bullet header screamed past the post.  The same pair combined soon after with Marlow releasing Andrew down the left to drive to the bye-line but there were no takers for his cut-back across the face of goal.

aa_DSC_2268.JPG

Back came Bankies and Paterson’s perseverance down the left saw him progress into the box only for his shot to be deflected wide by Marlow. Although the resulting corner-kick was headed clear by McKnight the Bankies quickly recovered the ball to set up Deas in the box for a low angled shot that was also deflected wide and the corner that followed mopped up by the Glens defence.

In the centre circle Ryan McChesney beat Deas in the air and the ball fell for Moore on the left to drive forward and cut the ball into the box where former Bankies striker Joe Andrew got between Darroch and Matt McLean to lash the ball home from 8 yards out, to level the match on 57 minutes.

aa_DSC_2306.JPG

Glens freshened things up as they pressed for a second with goalscorer Andrew making way for Mick McCann. On 63 minutes Lynass beat Chris Dooley in the air and Dallas snapped up the ball to break forward and fashion a shot from 24 yards out which Waters did well to get down low and hold on tight to the ball.

Midway through the half Bankies brought on Ross Alexander for Josh Watt. Still the Glens pressed and Dallas nicked the ball from Darroch before then turning the defender outside in before slipping a superb ball into the box for the incoming Lynass to gather to crack a shot from the corner of the six yard box that was brilliantly blocked by the feet of Waters.

aa_DSC_2357.JPG

On 71 minutes some respite for the home side through Paterson’s break down the left before cutting into the box and shooting for goal only for McGarrity to pull off a great block with his legs as McClair waited on the cut-back. Bankies made another change with Darroch making way for Reece Pearson.

The referee took Moore and Forsyth aside for a word after the latter squared up to the former another clash. Deas got on with the game with a powerful drive through the middle and evaded a tackle from Moore at the edge of the box but his shot lacked the power to test McGarrity.

Forsyth was living dangerously as he refused to surrender the ball when the Glens had won the throw in and squared up to McAusland.

Play was now more evenly matched and flowed from end to end without any clear cut chances.  On 83 minutes McGarrity launched the ball upfield and Dallas snapped up Dooley’s attempt to head it clear before breaking into the box only for the defender to recover and rob the striker off the ball and give away a corner.

aa_DSC_2466

Lynass’s kick was cleared at the near post and John Cunningham got a touch on the centre circle to release McClair upfield. Cunningham matched his teammate’s run to pick up his pass to advance into the box where he turned Moore and McKnight and although he fell to the ground he kept his wits to poke the ball between the keeper’s legs and into the net. Bankies 2-1 up on 84 minutes.

Two minutes later Forsyth couldn’t resist the temptation to have another kick at Moore and a second yellow card saw the Bankies face the closing minutes with 10 men. However, there were to be no further chances of notes and Keiran McAnespie’s Bankies took the points.

Auchlinleck Talbot maintained their push for the title with a narrow win over current champions Glenafton Athletic in a hard-fought encounter at Beechwood Park.

aa_a_dalemoore05Sean McIlroy gave the home side an early lead with a clincal finish from inside the box. The visitors equalised before the break with Dale Moore finishing off a fine passage of passing. Jamie McKernon switched play from deep in the left to upfield wide on the right with Kyle McAusland. The defender’s header into the box was gathered by Mick McCann who hooked to it Ally Park on the overlap to square the ball into box for a one-two with Joe Andrew before drilling it low to the back post where the incoming Dale Moore (left) slotted it home beyond the touch of defenders on the line.

There was little between the two sides in the second half and it took a late strike by substitute Mark Shankland to score what proved to be the winner for Auchinleck despite Glenafton’s claims of keeper Brian McIlroy view being blocked by two players on offside positions.

BURNS SWEET FINISH SINKS AFTON

Glenafton came within a whisker of taking an early lead after Mick McCann kicked off and 15 seconds later he was picking up a pass from Conor Lynass in the box before drilling a low angled shot wide of the post.

On 6 minutes Keiren Wood zipped down the right flank before cutting the ball into the box where although Mark McKenzie completely mis-timed his shot the ball rolled onto Andy Muir to have a pop at goal that was blocked by the stooped head of Ryan McChesney and cleared by Craig Menzies.

aa_DSC_1124

Ryan McChesney blocks Andy Muir’s shot

Glens made progress down the right and although Joe Andrew and McCann couldn’t unlock the ‘Nock defence they brought Kyle McAusland into play who the picked out Ryan Borris on the right hand corner of the penalty box. The midfielder did well to engineer a shot only for it deflect of the leg of Paul Burns and the ball, having lost its sting, fall safely into the hands of keeper Darren Johnson.

On 14 minutes the visitors won the first corner-kick of the game after McAusland ended Muir’s attack down the left. Although Muir’s corner never got beyond first man Andrew his header was knocked on by Richard Murray before Jamie McKernon did enough to take the ball from the toes of Scott Anson and send the ball wide for another corner-kick. In stark contrast to the first this corner, from the right, was overstruck and the danger was over for the home side.

aa_DSC_1249

Mick McCann wins the header

Play got bogged down in the middle park for a spell before Glens enjoyed a decent spell.  On 19 minutes Dale Moore dispossessed Muir on the half-way line and threaded a fine ball through the middle for McCann to get the jump on the centre backs but was adjudged to have done so from a offside position. A minute later the Glens striker hunted down Johnson as he tried to recover a poor pass back, but the keeper kept his cool to side step McCann and launch the ball upfield.  McKernon’s free-kick from wide on the left was headed clear to the outskirts of the box by Anson where Borris took a touch to set up Dale Moore for a shot from 25 yards that swerved high and wide of target.

aa_DSC_1313

Dale Moore shoots for goal

On 23 minutes Anson’s shoulder charge into the ribs of McChesney went unnoticed by the match official and to add insult to injury the Glens centre back was penalised as the striker crumbled to the ground. Job done, and a quick wink to the irate home support, Anson recovered to sprint(!) into the box for Del Esplin’s incoming free kick which popped out of a pack of players into the path of James Lundie and although time and space was in his favour the centre-back skewed his shot from 8 yards to earn Glens a throw-in.

A Cumnock throw-in on the right was headed on by Anson at the half-way line for Esplin to chase and switch play to Muir on the left. In a flash he picked out Mark McKenzie’s run into the box which tempted Brian McGarrity to advance from his line, and although the keeper tried to draw back from the tackle at the last-minute he caught the midfielder and a penalty kick awarded.  On 27 minutes Paul Burns, who had missed a spot-kick in the midweek game at Girvan, stepped up to drill a low shot to McGarrity’s right only for the keeper to push it round the post.  The resulting corner was whipped into the near post where Woods headed it down for Burns but his shot from inside the six yard box failed to find the target.

aa_DSC_1284

Cumnock continued to press and on 31 minutes they won a free-kick on the fringes of the penalty box but Burns must have felt it wasn’t going to be his day as his effort was well off target.

The closing third of the half (!) belonged to the home side in terms of half-chances.  McCann and Borris combined to set up Moore’s effort from 25 yards which dipped over the bar. Borris, again the architect, slipped the ball to Lynass on the right, who gave Murray the slip as he drove for the bye-line only for cut-back to be cut-out by the outstretched leg of the keeper. On 39 minutes, in what was the best move of the half, McAusland’s clearing header was gathered by Borris wide on the right before clipping the ball upfield for Lynass at the corner of the penalty box where he held off both centre backs to slip the ball to McCann who in turn picked out the incoming Moore only for th midfielder’s shot from seven yards to drift inches wide of the post.

Lynass then earned the Glens their first corner kick but, of all people, it was Burns that won the aerial header to clear McKernon’s kick. The home side quickly retrieved the ball and Borris burst into the left-hand-side of the penalty box, driving through the space between Burns and Lundie to reach edge of the six-yard box from where his shot at goal was blocked by the feet of the keeper and deflected to safety.

H/T Glens 0 Cumnock 0

Cumnock were first to show after the break winning back-to-back corner kicks without threatening the Glens goal. Woods had taken a knock in the process and after failing to recover was replaced by Jamie Ballantyne on 50 minutes.

Andrew chased a ball down in the Cumnock box forcing Lundie to clear at the expense of a corner. McKernon’s delivery from the left never got beyond front man Burns but Cairns quickly recovered the ball and floated it to the far side of the box where McAusland’s header was headed clear by Anson only to be snapped up by Moore who whipped a wicked ball to the back post where although McCann got a head to it, he couldn’t guide the ball on target.

aa_DSC_1476

Joe Andrew on the move

On 57 minutes Glens brought on Cameron Marlow for Conor Lynass, with Marlow taking up a place in the middle of the park with Moore filling the placed vacated by Lynass.

McChesney, wide on the left from the half way line, launched a free-kick high into the box which was gathered by keeper Johnson to launch a counter-attack upfield.

Anson beat Menzies to the ball to progress down the left and cut the ball across the face of goal for the incoming Paul Burns to fire home at the back post. Cumnock 1-0 up with 61 minutes gone.

aa_DSC_1544

Paul Burns fires home

Glens brought on Chris Dallas for Mick McCann as the home side went in search of an equaliser. McKernon’s free kick from the half way line initiated a scramble in the box that saw both sides surrender possession before the ball fell for Andrew to turn Lundie in the box but his low shot lacked the power to test the keeper who got down low to hold the ball.

Around 70 minutes both sides made substitutions with Cumnock bringing on Jamie Martin for Mark McKenzie and Glenafton replacing Ryan Borris with Darren McGill.

Burns through ball set up Anson to beat the offside trap but he fluffed his shot which only just reached the hands of McGarrity.

On 74 minutes Cameron Marlow was shown a red card for words said after another decision by the match official had left the home side and their support bewildered.  Two minutes later Moore was cynically hacked down from behind by Stephen McKenna in front of the referee and after the advantage came to nothing,  the referee chose to show the offender a yellow card.

McAusland outjumped Crawford to head the ball on for Dallas and although the stiker got between the two centre halves to get his shot away it lacked the power to test Johnson, who mopped up the loose ball.

aa_DSC_1714

Chris Dallas shoots for goal

Martin had brought some fresh energy to Cumnock’s attack since his introduction and he weaved about the park with determination and style in equal measure. A mazy run was brought to an end with a robust tackle from McGill that earned the midfielder a yellow card.  The resulting free-kick was headed over the bar by Murray. Another run by the youngster was ended by McKernon and the flash of a yellow card with the free kick being cleared.

With 5 minutes to go Martin was on the move again and although he showed a clean pair of heels his shot at goal lacked their shine and the ball whizzed well wide of the post. Back came Martin wide on the right skipping past defenders like training cones and switched play to Anson on the left hand side of the box but his attempt to bring the overlapping Ballantyne into play ended with a woefully short pass that McAusland  cleared before being clattered by the Cumnock defender.

The 10 men got a second wind and pushed for an unlikely equaliser in added time. Moore looked to have won a header cleanly to send the ball into the box but with a squeal Esplin fell to the ground covering his eye which earned the visitors a free-kick and a breather – thankfully he never required any treatment and made a full recovery! On 92 minutes Anson was booked for kicking the ball away after the Glens had won a free-kick and once again Johnson, who had a flawless game, clutched the ball cleanly.

A hard working Glens side gained revenge for their defeat over Beith at Bellsdale in the first league match of the season.

Glenafton Athletic squad (16)Beith started reasonably well against a strong wind but fell behind on 12 minutes conceding a goal from corner kick.  Jamie McKernon’s delivery into the box fell perfectly for Kyle McAusland  (left) to fire home from eight yards. Both keepers had little to do as the game became scrappy and further goal scoring chances proved scarce.  Half-hearted penalty appeals from both sides were waved away and Glens were strong enough to prevent Beith converting a couple of late half chances

Free flowing football was seldom on show on a difficult pitch and in a game peppered with free kicks which players and supporters alike had often to wait to see which team the referee was penalising.

Glens forced the first corner kick of the game on 8 minutes after Ally Park’s attempted cross from tight on the right was deflected wide. Kyle McAusland’s header from Jamie McKernon’s header looped safely into the hands of former Glens goalie Ally Semple.

Cumnock were having little joy with high balls as Ryan McChesney dominated the aerial battles against striker Scott Anson. On 14 minutes Raymond Montgomerie tried a different approach as he picked up a cute pass from Mark McKenzie at the edge of the box but his shot sailed high and wide of the target.

aa_a_ryan_mcchesney

At the other end Ryan Borris pounced on a Cumnock clearance but Semple was alert to his speculative shot from 25 yards and got down low to push the ball wide for a corner-kick. Anson won this aerial battle to head the ball clear only for it to fall for Dale Moore wand although the Glens midfield did well to strike the ball cleanly from distance through a ruck of players the shot lacked power to test Semple.

The game then entered into a prolonged period of scrappy play where despite the endeavours from both sides there was no end product, as they say.

On 27 minutes fine play by the lively McKenzie at the edge of the box had him evade a trio of defenders before slipping the ball for the incoming Anson to drill a low angled shot that was deflected wide for the visitors first corner-kick. The delivery was headed on at the near post by Richard Murray but Anson miscued his attempt to bury the loose ball and Park cleared the danger.

aa_a_ryan_borris

Dallas and Borris then combined well on the right to allow the latter to give two defenders the slip and drive to the bye line before whipping the ball into the six-yard box for the incoming Mick McCann but instead Murray’s intervening header fell for Cammy Marlow only for his shot to be blocked.

Glens continued to press and Moore tried to his luck from distance and although Semple spilled the shot he quickly fell on the ball to deny the inrushing Dallas the chance of putting away the rebound.

Ten minutes from the break James Hilton’s pass into the box looked to have set McKenzie up but defender Alan Cairns’ presence prevented the striker from fashioning a clean shot at goal and keeper Brian McGarrity rushed to snap up the loose ball as Anson advanced.

Back came Glens and a long throw into a packed box was scrambled clear enabling Hilton to push forward to the centre circle and although his pass went astray he was caught late by McKernon, earning the midfielder a yellow card and the visitors a free-kick. Del Elspin floated the ball into the heart of the box and Scott Anson, having come out second best in aerial battles with McChesney throughout the game, opted to keep his feet on the ground and stooped to glance a perfectly guided header beyond the reach of McGarrity. The visitors 1-0 up on 40 minutes.

aa_a_goal01

H/T Glens 0 Cumnock 1

McChesney emerged from the club house with an ice pack on the back of his neck and three minutes later after his first header of the half his game was over and on came Iain McKnight in his place. The young centre-back was soon in the thick of it heading clear a free kick floated into the back post.

At the other end Dallas won a header deep in the Cumnock box but Murray was on hand to clear the lines.

On 53 minutes Cumnock’s first corner of the half was punched clear by McGarrity and two minutes later Park did enough to put Anson off a short- range shot, after picking up another fine pass from McKenzie. The visitors continued to press. Another corner-kick came and went before McKenzie floated the ball into the six-yard box where McKnight bet Anson to the jump at the expense of a further corner. Anson won a free header at the near post but the ball flew straight into the welcoming hands of McGarrity.

Some respite for the Glens on the hour mark with a long ball upfield for Dallas to chase only for the offside flag to be quickly followed by a yellow card for kicking the ball away!

Glens brought on Darren McGill for Ryan Borris as they went in search of an equaliser. Dallas tried his luck from just outside the ‘D’ but the ball sailed over the bar. A minute later the striker burst through the space between James Lundie and Murray to progress to the right-hand corner of the penalty box before lashing the ball that again flew high and wide of target.

aa_a_dallas

Back came Cumnock with a free-kick taken inches from the right-hand corner flag. It was floated to the back post for Anson to head it back across the face of goal for Lundie, who was being marked by Park, but it was McGarrity who came out on top as he leapt to clutch the ball.

Midway through the half Cumnock doubled their lead. Semple launched the ball upfield and McKnight, at the edge of the box, beat Anson to the jump sending the ball high into the air which was then headed clear by McAusland only to be snapped up Jamie Bannantyne who whipped a great ball into the middle where Scott Anson in space sent a powerful downward header that despite McGarrity’s effort ended up in the net.

aa_a_goal02

The home side brought on striker Joe Andrew for midfielder Cameron Marlow.

However, it was Cumnock that continued to look the livelier and on 77 minutes Anson passed up the chance of a hat-trick after his low-angled shot from close range lacked the power to test McGarrity. A minute later the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Stevie Crawford earned a second yellow card for time-wasting; bizarrely twice refusing to catch a ball that was thrown to him to take a throw in!

Andrew played a neat pass for Dallas to chase down in the box and although he held off defender Kieran Wood his shot was blocked by the knees of Semple rushing from his line. Back came Andrew to drive into the right hand side of the box and whip the ball across the face of goal but there were no takers other than the thankful Semple with a simple save.

In the closing minute Glens won three successive corner-kicks before the handshakes.

aa_chris_dallasKilbirnie enjoyed the best of the first half and Kurtis Roberts put the home side ahead on 30 minutes . In a game of two halves the Glens had the better of the second half and equalised through Chris Dallas firing in his 25th goal of the season from the penalty spot. The visitors were reduced to 10 men after Jamie McKernon saw red for disputing a yellow card for diving. Despite the set back the New Cumnock side continued to threaten but there was to be no further scoring.

GLENS GET THE BETTER OF LUCKLESS ‘LIE.

Glenafton lined up with Conor Lynass and Cameron Marlow filling the full back slots and the centre back pairing of Kyle McAusland and Iain McKnight. Filling the left back position for visitors Arthurlie was former Glenafton favourite Kevin McBride who enjoyed three spells at the club while up front was James Marks, so often a thorn in Glens side, returning to Barrhead from Largs Thistle.

Arthurlie, currently sitting bottom of the table, got off to a great start after Conor Lynass clipped the ankles of Andrew MacLennan in the box and Kieran McAleenan rifled home the spot kick. The visitors continued to look lively on the break and earned a corner-kick five minutes later that was cleared at the near post by the Lynass.

Arthurlie take the lead from the spot

On 12 minutes Glens fashioned their first chance after former Arthurlie player Chris Dallas picked up the ball from Mick McMcann to drive into the box and drill a low shot that was pushed away by keeper Grant Hay. The keeper then showed a safe pair of hands as he clutched Ryan Borris’s cross from wide on the right under the bar.

A half-chance to double their lead came ‘Lie’s way on 17 minutes after James Marks held off Iain McKnight to force his way into the box where Kyle McAusland’s attempt to clear the ball cannoned off keeper Brian McGarrity who had rushed off his goal-line but although the striker snapped up the loose ball the angle to find the empty net was too narrow; the chance was gone.

Midway through the half Dallas picked up the ball on the half-way line and threaded a superb pass for Moore to chase down and drive into the box where he turned Michael Daly before closing in on goal only for the alert Hay to advance and make a marvellous block. This sparked a good spell of pressure for the home side and another cute pass from Dallas set up a shot from 10 yards out for the lively Jamie McKernon that was pushed round the post by Hay. McCann came within a whisker of connecting with McKernon’s corner before a rattled Arthurlie cleared their lines.

The visitors break upfield was mopped up by Lynass deep on the left who quickly played the ball infield to Cameron Marlow to switch the ball upfield Borris wide on the right. The midfielder’s first attempt to cross the ball into the box was blocked by the sole of MacLennan’s boot and his second attempt was met by the head of Mark Blakey which sent the ball high into the air triggering a run into the box by Ally Park to meet ball sweetly as it dropped and smash it into the net with the keeper rooted to the spot. The sides now level at 1-1 with 23 minutes gone.

A period of scrappy play ended on 32 minutes with a marvellous piece of play by the industrious Hal Bohme who killed the ball on his chest before giving Marlow the slip to advance into the box and crack a shot from a tight angle only for McGarrity to pull off a superb reflex save before McKnight made a goal saving to clearance as Marks seemed certain to bury the loose ball. The keeper then rose unchallenged to gather the corner-kick with ease.

McCann’s run down the right was brought to an abrupt end by Daly before the free-kick deep into the box saw McKnight win the aerial battle and Dallas’s attempt to find the net blocked by a ruck of blue shirts.

Back up field and Holme, from right hand corner of the box, played a glorious ball to the back post for the incoming MacLennan but the former Renfrew midfielder was just a step off the pace.

Glens countered up the left through Moore who clipped the ball to McCann to head into the box for Dallas to gather and flash the ball across the face of goal to be met at the back post by Borris only for Hay to push the ball round the post. McKernon’s corner was flicked on by head of McKnight and collected at the far side of the box by McAusland who was brought down by a mis-timed tackle by the unfortunate Bohme. Although keeper Hay guessed the right way he couldn’t reach Chris Dallas’s spot kick as he lashed home his 24th goal of the season to put the Glens ahead on 37 minutes.

The visitors responded in determined fashion and the woodwork deny Marks and an equaliser twice in two minutes. The first saw Slick hold of a challenge from McAusland on the six-yard line to get a shot away that crashed off the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Marks then got the better of McAusland again, this time in the air, but his header from 8 yards out struck the base of the post.  Sandwiched between those chances was a powerful downward header from  MacLennan was well held by McGarrity.

Glens carved out the last chance of the half through a tremendous run by Lynass to weave past a number of players to reach the bye-line only for his cut-back for Dallas to be intercepted by Craig Buchanan and headed wide. Hay finished off a fine half claiming the ball without a challenge.

The home side were first to show after the break following a scramble in the box and the ball falling for Moore only his shot from 12 yards to dip over the bar.

Arthurlie countered down the left and Kevin McBride picked out Marks at the corner of the box bit the striker’s shot was blocked and the ball fell for McKernon who immediately launched the ball up the left-wing for Dallas to chase. The striker showed the back-tracking Buchanan a clean pair of heels as he stormed into the box and with Daly now giving chase he timed to perfection his square ball for the incoming Mick McCann to take first time and give Hay no chance from 8 yards out. The Glens now 3-1 up after 49 minutes.

Mick McCann doubles the Glens lead 3-1

The home side were stroking the ball about with some purpose. A long pass from Lynass to McCann was touched on to Park who rolled the ball into the path of Dallas to turn and shoot in the box only to be foiled by the outrushing Hay with another fine block.  The resulting corner kick was taken short by Borris to McKernon and after another quick exchange of the ball the latter’s shot at goal sailed over the bar.

On 57 minutes Arthurlie made a change with Jordan Craig replacing Ryan Scanlon.

McKnight’s push on Marks earned the visitors a free kick 20 yards from goal but Blakey fired the ball into the wall and drilled the rebound deep into the box which was eventually cleared by the Glens defence.

Back came the Glens and Park’s shot from 22 yards dipped over the bar as did McKernon’s angled shot from inside the box courtesy of Blakey’s clearing header. The corner-kick that followed was also cleared as was a free kick floated into the box soon after.

Arthurlie made their second change on 71 minutes with defender Blakey making way for midfielder Dominic O’Halloran as ‘Lie tried to salvage something from the game. A minute later they almost halved the deficit but astonishingly Marks hit the woodwork for the third time in the game. A ball to the back post was headed across goal by Buchanan and there was Marks but his shot from the six- yard line thundered off the crossbar.

At the other end a clever ball into the box from Borris took McBride out of play allowing Lynass a free run to gather the ball and cut it back from the bye-line only for the outstretched leg of Hay to deny Dallas a tap-in.

Kevin McBride pointin out Mick

With 15 minutes to go the visitors made their final with Newlands replacing Kevin McBride and soon after Glens brought on Craig Menzies for Ryan Borris.

McCann released Dallas down the right before running into the box to gather the return ball but it was Hay coming off his line that was the recipient of Dallas’s cross.

On 81 minutes Arthurlie halved the deficit after Marks gathered a knock on and from the left hand corner of the penalty box leathered what seemed an unstoppable shot only for McGarrity to get a strong hand to push the ball away before it fell for substitute Dominic O’Halloran at the far corner of the six yard box to rifle it into the roof of the net.

Dominic makes it 3-2

With their tails up the Barrhead side went in search of an equaliser and a minute later MacLennan did well to trap a long ball at the edge of the box and set up a shot that drifted well wide of the far post. Back-to-back corners kicks were cleared by the Glens defence as Arthurlie continued to press. The second clearance saw the ball launched back into the box and Buchanan’s header fell for O’Hallaran to tee up a close range shot but Park was on him like a shot with a strong block.

The Glens regained their composure with attack being the best form of defence and saw out the closing 5 minutes to extend their unbeaten league run to 5 games including 4 wins.
