AUCHINLECK TALBOT 2 (1)

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 (0)

Glenafton made two changes to the side that started against Pollok on Saturday with Chris Meikle and Jamie Hay replacing Dan Orsi and Cameron Marlow.

The first real chance in the game fell to the home side on 13 minutes when Kier Milliken picked out Graham Wilson and although he managed to clip the ball beyond the reach of keeper Brian McGarrity at the near post it slipped inches of the far post with the net gaping. At the other end Mick McCann’s header from a Craig McGuffie corner-kick looped over the bar.

Midway through the half Talbot won a free kick on the edge of the box and after the kick rebounded off the wall the ball was recovered and played in for Wilson who slotted home from an offside position. However, soon after on 24 minutes a misplaced pass so the ball fly the left wing and the alert Wilson tear after it and in flash lob the ball over the head of McGarrity into the far corner with an exquisite finish.

Auchinleck 1-0

The visitors began to push forward and McCann made excellent progress down the right to the deadball line before whipping the ball across the face of goal which was misjudged by keeper Andy Leishman before landing at the feet of Joe Andrew only for his shot to be deflected wide for a corner-kick which concluded with Ryan McChesney header going wide of target.  Leishmann later held a low angled shot from McCann and smothered an attempt by Andrew as the Glens pushed for the equaliser.

The hosts began the second half brightly without fashioning a clear shot at goal . The Glens gradually found their feet with the runs of McGuffie catching the eye and yet their only rewards were corner-kicks that failed to threaten the Talbot goal.

Midway through the half and the visitors were again the architects of their own downfall with possession given away cheaply in the middle of the park and the ball snapped up by William Boyd to burst into the box and finish in some style from the tightest of angles.

Half chances came and went at either end and although McCann slipped the ball beyond the outrushing Leishman and into the Talbot net the striker had been flagged offside.
