Jamie Hay: Scored his first Glens goal
The Glens travelled to Greenfield Park to face Shettleston Juniors to contest the first ever league match between the two clubs. The visitors began with the same starting elven that kicked off in the victory over Irvine Meadow the previous Saturday.
Both sides created some decent chances before the Glens were awarded a penalty with the hand-ball earning the centre-back a second yellow card and reducing the home side to 10 men. Former Clyde goalkeeper & Dunfermline (too name a few ) keeper Bryn Halliwell pulled off a fine save from Joe Andrew’s spot-kick. Just before the break the visitors won another penalty and Jamie Hay, who impressed throughout the match, made no mistake from 12 yards out to put the Glens ahead with his first goal for the club. Soon after the restart another 2nd yellow card incident reduced Shettleston to 9 men and is often the case they put up a spirited fight not just defensively but also in pursuit of an equaliser. Indeed it wasn’t until the last kick of the game that the outcome was sealed with John Paul Boyle finding the net to seal the points and making in three league wins in a row for the New Cumnock side.
