Troon and Glenafton Athletic will meet on Thursday 5th January at Greenwood Academy, Irvine with a 6:30pm kick off. Of course there are more than a few familiar former Glenafton faces in the Troon team – Dougie Ramsay, Jonathan Baillie, Cammy McKinnell, Tony Murphy as well as Dale Moore of the Glenafton Boys Club.
The Seasiders are pushing for promotion from the Ayrshire District League and boast an excellent record of PL9 W7 D2 L2 F36 A 12 Pts23. They are also enjoying good cup runs in both the West of Scotland and Scottish Cups, where they have displayed their penalty taking prowess by winning no fewer than three shoot-outs. Indeed Troon’s last defeat was way back in early September when Kello Rovers left Portland Park with the points.
Glenafton and Troon last met back in July in the pre-season Joe Meldrum Tournament at Loch Park. A double from Paul McKenzie and a single from Gareth Armstrong put the home side in control before Dale Moore scored a late consolation for Troon, as the Glens went on to retain the trophy.
