Glens 4 Annbank 2

Pre-Season Friendly

Saturday 16th July, 2011

Loch Park, New Cumnock

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 4 ANNBANK UNITED 2

Darren Henderson’s first game as Glens’ gaffer saw the New Cumnock side play host to Ayrshire District side Annbank United, who had Steph McMillan back in charge as manager.  Summer arrivals at Loch Park –  Cammy McKinnel, Craig Potter, Andy Bell (all from Dalry) and Kris Mitchell (Kilwinning Rangers) and three trialists joined Ally Semple, Robbie Henderson, Craig McEwan, Paul McKenzie and Gareth Armstrong in the starting eleven.

The home side took the lead when former Bankie Taz McKenzie with a peach of a pass picked out Trialist who then despatched the ball into the onion bag beyond the advancing Mark Fisher in the visitors’ goal. Annbank bounced back in some style and reversed the goal deficit before the half hour mark.  On 21 minutes Kevin Aitken capitalised on some uncertainty in the home defence to slot home the equaliser and nine minutes later Michael Reilly crashed home an unstoppable shot. Four minutes before the Glens Trialist doubled his tally with a finish equally as impressive as that of Reilly’s.

Paul McKenzie

Both sides introduced a number of substitutes at the re-start and throughout the half. For Glens the familiar faces of Ryan McChesney, Richie McKillen and Steven Greenlees appeared with young goalkeeper Ryan Dunsmuir and another trialist. Perhaps the most active of all the subs however was Annbank’s keeper Jordan Callaghan who was key at keeping the Glens at bay, a point bank save from a Gareth Armstrong of particular note. The home side’s prressure was finally rewarded when a Richie McKillen free-kick from the left was eventually scrambled over the line via the head of another former Bankie Jim Wilson (although the subsitute trialist may have got the final touch!) .  Minutes later a defence splitting pass from Kris Mitchell was gathered by Paul McKenzie who showed great composure to slot the ball the home.
