Macron Scottish Junior Cup | 2nd Round
Guy’s Meadow Park, Cumbernauld
Ally and Kyle finish with style as Glens go through.
In a keenly fought contest it was the Premiership side that just edged out high flying championship side Cumbernauld United to progress to the 3rd round of the Macron Scottish Junior Cup. The visitors made a lively start and had already threatened before taking the lead on 4 minutes. Chris Dallas and Leon Murphy played a neat one-two on the right hand side of the penalty box before Dallas rolled the ball to other side of the box for the incoming Ally Park (left) to leather home an unstoppable low shot. The midfelder came close to doubling the Glens advantage when his header from a Murphy cross hit of the top of the bar and fell into the hands of the keeper. H/T Cumbernauld 0 Glens 1
The home side were very much on the front foot after the break with former Glenafton players, captain Paul Murphy and striker Scott McManus in the thick of things. United’s pressure paid off on the hour through a marvellous strike from Jamie Kennedy wide on the right. Both sides went in search of a winner with some decent chances being created. Deep into injury time and Murphy played a one-two with Dale Moore before running through the middle only to be barged off the ball some 25 yards from goal. Up stepped Kyle McAusland (left) to curl the ball beyond the wall and the reach of the forlorn keeper. F/T Cumbernauld 1 Glens 2
