ARTHURLIE 1 (1)

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 2 (0)

Striker Mick McCann was still unavailable for selection and with midfielder Chris Malone placed on the transfer list the Glens made a number of changes to the starting eleven that faced Jeanfield Swifts last week. Chris Meikle, Daniel Orsi , Craig McGuffie and Michael Wardrope replaced Craig Menzies, Ryan McChesney , Chris Malone and John Paul Boyle.

The home side threatened early coming close a couple of times before Glen countered through Craig McGuffie with a trademark run before whipping a dangerous cross into the box which was cut out well by keeper Zander Cowie. Arthurlie took the lead on 15 minutes after a Connor McGlinchey free kick into the box eventually fell for Steven Tart who fired home. Keeper Brian McGarrity prevented the hosts from doubling their lead after pulling off a fine save from Gary Smith.

The visitors enjoyed a good spell and a powerful run by top scorer Darren McGill set up a chance for Dan Orsi only for Cowie to foil him with an outstanding save. Another fine run by McGill ended with Gary Carroll pulling back the Glens midfielder at the expense of a free kick, but McGill paid the price after a swinging arm caught his assailant, and an early bath the outcome. Striker Chris Dallas came within a whisker of doubling ‘Lie’s advantage just before the break after his effort beat McGarrity but skimmed past the post.

Ten minutes into the second half and the ten men of Glenafton turned the tables to take the lead. On 52 minutes Cowie got down low to block a shot but could do little to prevent the alert Michael Wardrope from pouncing and slamming home the equaliser.

Two minutes later and former Arthurlie player Joe Andrew fired the Glens in front in spectacular fashion lashing the ball home from 30 yards out.

With 15 minutes to go it was 10-a-side after Gavin Rushford earned a second yellow card for his reaction to a robust tackle. Glenafton enjoyed some decent possession and looked the likelier to add to their lead with a Chris Meikle effort the pick of the chances. The home side nearly sneaked a shared of the points in the closing seconds after a goalmouth scramble before McGarrity claimed the loose ball.
