LUGAR BOSWELL THISTLE 7 (3)

Prior to kick-off Glenafton announced the transfer to Hurlford United of Paul McKenzie, Ross Robertson and brothers Glen and Danny Mitchell, all of whom had made clear their desire to leave the club. Making the switch from Blair Park to Loch Park Aaron Connolly were and Scott Adam and both strikers made the starting eleven for the opening Ardagh Cup match of the season, which had been switched to Rosebank Park.
Keeper Brian McGarrity and midfielder Stevie Miller, two other of manager’s Tommy Bryce’s summer signings, were side-lined through injury and in came Glenafton U19 goalkeeper Ryan Dunsmuir along with two trialists.
It proved to be memorable night for the hosts. After Dunsmuir saved a spot kick they later opened up a three goal lead in the first half with a brace from Andy Stevenson and one from Martin Reilly. Gareth Armstrong headed home to herald some hope for the visitors just before the break.
Thoughts of a second half come-back from the Glens evaporated in double time after the young keeper could only direct a Chris Todd corner-kick into his own goal and Martin Reynolds fired in a fifth soon after. Stevenson completed his hat-trick and added another for good measure to crown off a stunning victory for the Jaggy Bunnets
