Glenafton 0 Auchinleck 5

Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup Quarter-final

Wednesday 8th May, Loch Park,  New Cumnock

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 (0)

AUCHINLECK TALBOT 5 (3)

The two teams last met in early March at Beechwood when the home side gathered another three points in their relentless march towards the league title with an impressive 4-0 win. Since then the Glens have won 9 games in a row but hopes of making it 10 were quickly dispelled by another formidable display from Auchinleck. First half goals from James Latta, Ray Montgomery and former Afton lad David Gormley before the home side were reduced to 10 men, following the dismissal of Craig Potter, put the visitors firmly in control.  Bryan Young and Gordon Pope, with a late penalty, completed the scoring to set up a semi-final away to Cumnock.

Rob Roy’s defeat to Arthurlie ensures Glenafton will finish fourth in the league – a fantastic achievement in their return to the Premier Division. Congratulations and well done to Darren, John and the players. Come Awa’ the Afton.
