Stagecoach West Region Premier Division
Saturday 5th January 2013, Loch Park, New Cumnock
GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 0 (0)
KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY 4 (1)
The game started at a fast pace and after three minutes Paul McKenzie shot narrowly past. The Rabs replied with a good chance of their own as the game quickly opened up with both sides trying to play football. John Paul Boyle worked his way into the box only for Jordan Smith to make a last gasp clearance. In the 12th minute the Glens won a corner but from the resultant kick Rob Roy broke away and following a slick movement Roddy Hunter opened the scoring; with home claims for offside waved away.
The home side responded but again Boyle was denied. In the 18th min Hunter rounded Ally Semple who had to leave the area but his shot hit the post. The former Clyde striker was proving a handful and Semple had to produce a point blank save. Play continued to swing from end to end. With half an hour gone Bobby Colligan came on for Boyle. In the closing minutes of the half the impressive Gus Cochrane met a cut back with his head but the ball slipped past the goal frame. H/T Glens 0 Rob Roy 1
An explosive start to the second half saw a Colligan shot blocked and McKenzie smash the rebound which was blocked on the line with a suspicion of handball; the Glens midfielder booked for the manner of his appeal. In the 50th min the Rabs broke upfield and Steven Meechan and slotted past Semple. Sixty seconds later the home roof caved in when a misheaded clearance fell straight at the feet of Kieran McAleenan who calmly tapped the ball home to put the visitors three up.
There seemed no way back now for Glenafton particularly against a resolute back four. Another penalty appeal from the home side, after McKenzie was clattered in the box, resulted in another yellow card with captain Paul Murphy going in the book. With 10 minutes to Roddy Hunter bagged his brace with another piece of clinical finishing.
To add to the home side’s woes John Dempster earned himself a brace of yellow cards for letting his feelings known to the referee.
