Everyone at Glenafton Athletic was saddened to learn about the tragic passing of former Glens player Adam Strachan. Our thoughts are with Adam’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Adam was signed for Glenafton Athletic at the beginning of Season 2014/15 by manager Tommy Bryce. He quickly settled in and enjoyed a good pre-season scoring in 3 of the 6 friendlies. Adam scored his first competitive goal in the 2-1 home loss to Auchinleck Talbot in the sectional games of the Ardagh Ayrshire Sectional Cup. In the Quarter-Fiinal the Glens defeated Whitletss Victoria in a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw and then travelled to Kilbirnie where they beat Ladeside 3-1, with Adam scoring the crucial third goal.
In the final at Troon the Glens faced favourites Auchinleck Talbot and put on a brilliant display with Adam almost unplayable as they went on to win 2-0 with goals from Cameron Marlow and Alain Kinney.
Adam went on to make 22 appearances for Glenafton and scored 6 goals before leaving the club in the New Year following the departure of manager Tommy Bryce and his assisstant Mark Howie. Still it felt he packed a season’s worth of play into such a short time and it was a privilege to watch him play a game he quite clearly, dearly loved. R.I.P. Adam.
