- McBookie Premier Division
- Match 16
- Beechwood Park, Auchinleck
- Wednesday 26th April 2017
- AUCHINLECK TALBOT 0 (0)
- GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 1 (1)
- Conor Lynass
Neither side were looking on the game as a dress rehearsal for the forthcoming Scottish Junior Cup Final as both were still heavily involved in a four-way fight for the Premier Division title. A wonder first-half goal from Conor Lynass secured all three points for the Glens, the New Cumnock side playing the last half-hour with 10 men, in a tight game to complete the league double over the Beechwood side.
Auchinleck enjoyed some early pressure and created a handful of decent chances without severely testing Glens keeper Brian McGarrity.
Glenafton grew into the game and Andy Leishman in the Talbot goal had to be alert to push a thundering 30-yard free kick from David Gray from under the bar out for a corner-kick. Former Talbot player Ally Park nicked the ball from Graham Wilson in the centre circle and played a one two with Craig Menzies before playing the ball wide to Alan Cairns who quickly fed Conor Lynass on the half-way line, wide on the left flank. The young midfielder burst upfield to the corner of the penalty box where he spearheaded through the gap between a pair of Talbot players to continue his run along the 18-yard box where he left another Talbot defender in his wake before again exploiting the gap between another pair of black and gold shirts to fire a low shot that whizzed past another Talbot defender and beyond the reach of Leishman at full stretch and into the net at the keeper’s left hand post. A quite stunning goal!

Leishman then prevented the visitors from doubling their lead with a stunning save from a Gray free-kick sweetly curled round the wall from 20 yards, the big keeper again at full stretch to get a hand to the ball and push it past the post.
On the hour mark Ally Park received a red card for a tackle on Bryan Young and the 10 men delivered another backs-to-the-wall performance to hold on to their narrow lead.
