The first match between Glenafton Athletic and their nearest neighbours Cumnock Juniors took place on 16th August, 1930 at Connel Park. It finished with a narrow victory for the New Cumnock side. Goalkeeper Bilky Wilson saved a Cumnock penalty before John Sim opened the scoring for Glenafton. Reid’s ‘ragging of the referee’ saw the visitors reduced to 10 men before Grozier doubled the home side’s lead. Cumnock’s McCall had the privilege of scoring the first ever goal against Glenafton but in the end it proved only to be a consolation.
