CUMNOCK JUNIORS v GLENAFTON ATHLETIC
Hard on the heels of 6-1 victory at Muirkirk the Glens travel to Townhead Park to face Cumnock Juniors who went down to a heavy 5-0 defeat at home to Talbot in the second set of sectional matches. Missing from the the ‘ Nock line up through suspension is former Glens captain Willie Howie who made the move to Townhead in the summer. Other former Afton lads at Cumnock are Chic Connolly and manager Stevie Farrell. The Glens too now boast a number of former Cumnock players in their ranks joining Ally Semple and Gareth Armstrong at Loch Park are Craig Potter, Craig Menzies and manager Darren Henderson (all via Dalry) and Gareth Campbell.

The first match between Glenafton Athletic and their nearest neighbours Cumnock Juniors took place on 16th August, 1930 at Connel Park. It finished with a narrow victory for the New Cumnock side. Goalkeeper Bilky Wilson saved a Cumnock penalty before John Sim opened the scoring for Glenafton. Reid’s ‘ragging of the referee’ saw the visitors reduced to 10 men before Grozier doubled the home side’s lead. Cumnock’s McCall had the privilege of scoring the first ever goal against Glenafton but in the end it proved only to be a consolation.
