Shotts kicked off with a strong wind at their back and were first to threaten when Jack Gordon launched a free kick from the centre circle into the left hand side of the Glens box where Robbie Torrance leapt to send a looping header high into the goalmouth over the heads of the Glens defenders only to be chased down by Taylor Evans to volley a shot from the far corner of the six-yard which flew high over the bar.

The home side were certainly enjoying spells of possession in the Glens box while the visitors were struggling against the wind. On 16 minutes Evans broke into the right-hand side of the box pursued by Ollie Rowe only for his low angled shot to slip wide of the post. Soon after David Markey had to race to 18-yard line to beat the incoming Gordon to the ball.

On 18 minutes Shotts took the lead after Gordon curled a free-kick into the box with players from both sides breaking from along the length of the 18 yard line and it was Taylor Evans that won the aerial battle to bullet a downward header from 8 yards out and although Markey got down to push the ball, the alert Evans was quick off the mark and leathered the ball into the net away from 6 yards out. Shotts 1 Glens 0, 18 minutes.

The home side continued to look the liveliest in and around the box forcing Markey, on a couple of occasions, to rush far from his goal-line to beat the incoming attack to the ball.

On 26 minutes Glens carved out chance after some good build up play down the left between Ryan McCubbin and David Craig before picking out Michael Mullen drifting towards the left-hand side of the ‘D’ only for his shot to be deflected wide and cleared for a shy. This was launched high into the box and after a stramash Torrance managed to head it clear of the six-yard box only as far as Mullen only for his header to drop safely into the hands of keeper Christopher Henry.

At the other end Markey mopped up a couple of attempts by Shotts to add to their lead.

Back came Glens and after Jared Willet was brough down some 30 yards from goal Mullen blasted a low free kick which found its way through a busy box only for keeper to get down low to save the ball at full stretch.

Play then huffed and puffed back and forth, not as strong as the wind though, without either keeper being tested.

The visitors kicked off with the wind at their back and they were first to threaten after Willet burst down the left and whipped a great ball to the near post for the incoming Mullen but not only did Torrance intercept the cross he fired the ball up the right to set up a counter-attack that saw Alastair Small and Gordon combine to advance the ball to the half-way line before feeding Mark McKenzie driving through the middle who quickly slotted a forward pass for Alastair Martin overlapping on the left to break into the box, with Blair Anderson on his heels, before drilling a low angled shot which the advancing Markey dived to hold at the corner of his six-yard box.

Back came the visitors through Lee Duncanson, from deep on the right a few yards from the corner flag he curled the ball into the goalmouth for the leaping Craig only for the ball to deflect off Evans back for a corner kick which in turn was headed clear by Evans.

At the other end Shotts won a corner on the left which was floated into a packed box and it was Evans that won the aerial battle again only for his header from 6 yards out to dip over the cross bar.

On 52 minutes Shotts brought on Darren Bowie for Alastair Small.

Willet broke forward towards the centre-circle in the Glens half before floating a great ball for Mullen to trap on the outskirts of the box and to take a touch or two before curling a vicious shot from 20 yards that dipped over the bar.

On 55 minutes Glens brought replaced Ryan McCubbin for Chris Erskine who was quickly in action floating a high ball into the box for the leaping Kerr only for Henry to rush from his line and flap the ball away with both hands. The visitors continued to press without however testing the keeper.

Shotts countered with a break down the left from where Gordon whipped a glorious ball to the back post for the inrushing Dylan McGuigan only for Craig to get between him and the post to head the ball out for the corner which was headed clear at the same post by Duncanson.

The visitors then enjoyed a good spell of possession in the host’s half.

Erskine wide on the right clip a ball from the half-way line down the line for Kerr to break forward and then cut inside to the corner of the box where he gave Codi Stark the slip before unleashing a ferocious shot only for the keeper to pull of a spectacular save pushing the ball over the bar.

Ross Lindsay from the right curled the corner kick to the near only for Henry to push it over the bar again. His corner from the left bounced untouched to the right-hand side of the box where Erskine and Craig held off a clutch of defenders before Erskine lofted a ball high into the box where although Bowie won the aerial battle the ball was eventually retrieved by Evan Maley only to be fouled on the edge of the box; claims for a penalty waved away.

Mullen curled the free-kick from a yard outside the round the Shotts wall only for keeper Henry to get down low to cleanly gather the ball.

Although Shotts countered with a couple of attacks the Glens defence stood firm.

On 70 minutes Glens made another change with Ross Lindsay making way for Callum Wilson.

Play raged back and forth for a spell without any clear-cut chances on show before the Glens stepped up the pressure with a wave of attacks and were rewarded on 85 minutes. Mullen blasted a shot from the edge of the box which was headed back out by Torrance only to be gathered by Anderson who laid it off to Duncanson wide on the right to skip past substitute Ben Richmond and drive to the touchline to cut it back into the box where Craig took a touch which Kerr trapped and then took two defenders out with a brilliant turn before guiding the ball toward Chris Erskine on the 18 yard line, a yard from left hand side of the ‘D’, who melted it first time, to rocket a shot past the keeper and defenders into the net. Shotts 1 Glens 1, 85 minutes.

Although both sides went in search of the winner, it was the visitors that created the best of the chances. On 90 minutes Shotts were up the field in numbers awaiting a long throw into the box only for Maley to head it clear for Erskine to lob it down the left wing for Kerr to gather and race into the box and with defender Stark on his heels he drilled a low shot from the corner of the six-yard box that whizzed wide of the post. Into 3 minutes added time Kerr was fouled on the outskirts of the box, up stepped Muller some 30 yards from goal to blast a free-kick wide of the three-man wall which took a bounce in the goalmouth only for the keeper to pull off a great save to push the ball wide of target.

Glenafton 3 Alan Cairns Testimonial Select 2

Glenafton Athletic hosted the Alan Cairns Testimonial to mark his 10 seasons with the club effectively over the period 2013/14 – 2022/23. Alan suffered a serious injury at the start of Season 2022/23 and joined Ardrossan Winton Rovers in Season 2023/24 and is now at the start of the third season with the club.

Glens kicked off on a sun-drenched Loch Park, fairly typical for New Cumnock – plus nae midgies!

Sadly on 4 minutes Conor Lynass suffered a shoulder injury. Ally Park (just retired from Maybole) switched to his position while substitute Jamie McGeoghan came on to fill the right back slot.

Dale Moore (Irvine Meadow) broke into the left-hand side of the box only for his cross into the goal mouth to be deflected wide by Blair Anderson for corner. David Gray floated the ball into the goalmouth which was hooked away by Anderson.

The visitors continued to press with Findlay Frye (Ardrossan Winton Rovers) burst into the right-hand side of the box to square for the inrushing Leon Murphy (Johnstone Burgh) only for his shot to deflect off Anderson before Murphy had a second bite at the cherry and although he managed to hook the ball with the outside of his left boot sending the ball wide of the target.

Soon after a free-kick was won a few yards short of the box and dead-ball specialist David Gray attempted to curl the ball over the three-man wall and into the arms of keeper David Markey, claiming it had struck one of the leaping players, Jared Willet & David Craig, on the arm, but the referee was not convinced!

Glens countered with Chris Erskine picking up the ball in the centre circle before breaking down the right and into the corner of the box only to meet a three-man wall of Darren Frye, Craig Menzies (Johnstone Burgh) and Alan Cairns (Ardrossan Winton Rovers) forcing him to clip ball down the wing for Lee Duncanson to lot a high ball into the six-yard batch which was cleanly clutched by keeper Brian McGarrity.

Back came Glens through Michael Mullen holding off Gray on the outskirts of the bbox and then gave Park and Kyle McAusland the slip inside the box before clipping the ball to Shuggy Kerr to beat the offside trap before drilling a low shot from 8 yards only for McGarrity on the six-yard line to stick out a foot and send the ball sailing over the bar.

Ross Lindsay floated the corner high into the box where Kerr head and shoulders abin them a’ bulleted a downward header the bouncing up from the six-yard line and controlled on the chest of Menzies who then combined with McGeoghan to clear the ball of the box.

A welcomed water break on 24 minutes.

McGeoghan and Murphy combined down the right and progress to the edge of the Glens box only for Blair Anderson to intervene and played a one-two with Calum Wilson then slipped the ball to Chris Erskine to push forward into The Select’s half before releasing the overlapping Anderson down the right to clip the ball into the box where Kerr with his back to the goal trapped the ball and turn only for McGarrity to gather.

At the other end Findlay Fry drilled a low ball from the left-hand corner of the box for Dale Moore only for his shot to be blocked by Jared Willet sending the ball high into the air and gathered by keeper David Markey.

Back came Glens and Michael Mullen, deep on the left and tight on the touchline, was boxed in by McGeoghan and launched a diagonal ball back to Lee Duncanson on the right touchline to take a touch before floating a high ball into the box where Hugh Kerr got between Menzies and McAusland to leap and guide header into the back post inches wide of the finger tips of keeper Brian McGarrity at full stretch. Glens 1 Select 0, 29 minutes.

Played then ‘raged’ back and forth in the sweltering heat. Erskine in a busy box picked out Kerr on the six-yard only for his shot to deflect off McAusland and ball slip inches wide of the back post. Ross Lindsay corner kick was headed clear by McGeoghan, head and shoulder above a clutch of players from both sides. Glens continued to press, however without testing MGarrity.

Indeed it was the keeper that initiated the Select’s equaliser after he launched a high free kick from a yard within his box to the outskirts of the Glens box where although Findlay Frye won header, Lewis Currie was penalised for holding. David Gray stepped up and curled the free wide of the two-man wall high towards the back post where Ally Park held off Lindsay before stooping to guide a header into the net beyond the reach of Markey stranded at the near post. Glens 1 Select 1, 40 minutes.

Two minutes later the Glens were back in front with some great build up play. Mullen gathered a short throw from Willet on then left and slipped the ball back to Wilson who held off Park to allow Mullen to pick up the static ball before playing a glorious one-two with Lindsay and gather the ball on the edge of the centre-circle, in the Select’s half, before firing a low ball for Shuggy Kerr to trap at the edge of the ‘D’, turn and slam the ball from 18 yards beyond the advancing McGarrity. Glens 2 Select 1, 42 minutes.

David Gray tried to catch Markey off his line from the kick-off only for the ball to drift wide of target. On the closing minute Duncanson from wide on the right whipped a cross deep into the box where Kerr outleapt the fence only for his header flashed wide of the post.

Glens made three changes at the break with Lewis Currie, Ross Lindsay and Michael Mullen making way for Ryan McCubbin, Evan Maley and Cammy Ross.

The Select made several changes with Ally Park, Kyle McAusland, Leon Murphy, David Gray, Jamie McGeoghan and Darren Frye making way for Cammy Marlow, Chris Meikle (Shotts Bona Accord), Raymond Montgomerie (Ardrossan Winton Rovers), Dean Fulton (Troon),Dave Gray and No. 14.

Glens were quickly on the front-foot without creating any decent chances.

Cammy Ross picked out Ryan McCubbin breaking down the right and from the outside of the box a couple yards from goal-line curled a ball into the box where the leaping Kerr’s header fell comfortably into McGarrity’s hands.

Soon after Erskine was tripped by Menzies on the outskirts of the box, on the right. Wilson drilled the free-kick low past the two-man wall only for McGarrity to get down low to save at the base of the post. The keeper then plucked Ross’s cross out of the air intended for the incoming Erskine.

A let off for the Glens when Anderson’s attempted clearance from the edge of the ‘D’ rebounded off the inrushing Findlay Frye sending the ball into the box only for the out-rushing Markey forcing Frye to go wide to the edge of the six-yard box but with Markey in pursuit the keeper blocked his attempt at goal and Willet cleared the ball upfield.

Back game Glens with McCubbin breaking down the right to whip a high ball into the goalmouth which was headed out by Menzies the ball eventually falling for Wilson to drill a low shot from the 18-yard line which McGarrity held cleanly.

On 56 minutes The Select made a change with Craig Menzies, former Glenafton keeper, making way for Zach Simpson (Ardrossan Winton Rovers).

Glens continued to press Wilson from deep in his own half threaded a long ball through the middle for McCubbin bouncing off his heels which fell for Kerr to gather and play a one-two with Ross before curling a shot from 20 yards which McGarrity had covered, but safety first Chris Meikle intervened to send a powerful header into orbit; the corner that followed was safely cleared.

On the hour mark The Select made their final change with Dale Moore making way for Calum McEwan (Cumnock Juniors).

Soon after, Kerr Blasted a free kick from 30 yards that sailed over the bar.

On 65 minutes Glens made a double substitution with David Markey and Chris Erskine making way for James Hart and Calum McFadyen.

Glens then strung together a well worked moved beginning with keeper Hart rolling the ball to Duncanson on the right touchline before squaring it to Anderson at the edge of the box who quickly slotted it down the right wing for Maley to gather and then cut inside before returning the ball to the advancing Anderson. Forward he went and slipped the ball to Ross on the right wing who quickly clipped it further down the touchline for Wilson to chase down and after holding off Simpson before driving to the bye-line and cutting inside to pick out McCubbin in the six yard only for Dave Gray to intercept and hook the ball clear.

Another fine patient move saw David Craig collect the ball deep on the right and the switch it to McFadyen on the left who slotted it up the touchline for Willet who then rolled it back to Craig in the Glens. The midfielder quickly picked out Wilson in the centre circle and in turn he clipped the ball to Ross on the right wing to play and slick one-two with Duncanson on the overlap down the touchline before squaring the ball for McCubbin only for shot to be blocked by Meikle and cleared upfield by McEwan.

The Select enjoyed a good spell deep in the Glens half on the left with captain Cairns pulling the strings before slipping the ball to Fulton who worked his way across the outskirt of the to find an opening in the Glens defence before drilling a low shot that was comfortable held by Hart.

Back came the Glens with Duncanson on the right exchanging passes with Ross and McFadyen before picking out Kerr who held of the challenge of Cairn and Gray before cracking a shot from 22 yards that sailed high and wide of target.

At the other end Cairns curled a high ball into a busy box which was headed well clear by David Craig only to be gathered by McEwan who, with Craig and McFadyen closing in, calmly squared the ball to Cairns who held off Ross and McFadyen to stab the ball forward for Marlow in space, to tee up a diagonal shot from 20 yards that dipped over the bar.

Soon after Frye picked out Gray in the centre circle who rolled the ball out to McEwan, tight on the right wing, who quickly burst up the right touchline and played the slickest of one-twos with No. 14 before progressing to the bye-line and although boxed in by Craig and Willet he managed to break free and crack a shot-cum-cross into the goalmouth, as Fulton had arrived in the six yard box with Ross for company, only for Hart to pull off a great save. Fulton rolled the loose ball back to the inrushing Montgomerie only for Ross to block.

Play raged back and forth, albeit the clouds were gathering!

Glens pushed forward with Evan Maley having to hurdle McEwan’s tackle on the outskirts of the ‘D’. Wilson drilled the free-kick through the wall taking a bounce inside the six yard box and although McGarrity got down low to get both hands on the ball, it slipped from his grasp and the alert Kerr was first to chase down the loose ball a few feet from the post and with Cairns on his heels he rolled the ball back to Cammy Ross to blast a diagonal shot from 7 yards out into the back of the net. Glens 3 Select 1, 81 mins.

The home side dominated the closing ten minutes and several half chances came and went. However, The Select would have the last say. McEwan from the right floated a corner-kick high into the goalmouth and although there were no takers the referee had spotted an earlier infringement, presumably a push on Findlay Frye by Cameron Ross, leaving him lying flat in the box. Up stepped Alan Cairns ‘Talbot Slayer’ to slam the spot-kick into the net. Glens 3 Select 2, 90 minutes.

Once both sides had lined up for the kick-off Alan was substituted allowing him to walk off the park to the applause of the crowd and meet with his family.

David Gray came on as substitute, only for the final whistle to be blown soon after.

The formal presentations later took place in the clubhouse. Glenafton thanked Alan for his service to the club and wished him all the best at Ardrossan Winton Rovers for the coming season.

Captain Craig Pettigrew calls it a day.

Glenafton captain Craig Pettigrew has called it day with the club and left this heart-felt message for the supporters.

All the best to everyone involved at Glenafton Athletic Official, good club with good people involved up there. Enjoyed my 6 years playing for the club, playing most of that time as club captain was a massive honour for me.

It’s been a disappointing season for me personally, missing the last 9 weeks of the season with a knee injury has meant I’m leaving the club, certainly not the way I wanted to end it but that’s football at times unfortunately.

Heading off on holiday in a couple of weeks to hopefully recharge the batteries, talk to a few beers and will then see what the future brings, might be another year left in me yet!

Craig had a spell at Lugar Boswell Thistle before joining the youth set-up at his beloved Ayr United. In the summer of 2008, he joined Auchinleck Talbot and during six successful seasons at Beechwood the club won (among others) three Scottish Junior Cups and two Premier Division titles as well as being capped for Scotland. He then stepped up to the Seniors at Stranraer for two seasons and then at Dumbarton for another before returning to Stair Park for a brief spell. Craig returned to Talbot in 2017 but within a few months moved on to Kilwinning Rangers.

Season 2019/20: Manager Craig McEwan

Craig joined Glenafton at the start of Season 2019/20, signed by manager Craig McEwan. The pre-season friendlies began with a home game against Cumbernauld United in the ‘Maggie Buchan Memorial Shield’ where Petts not only met up with his new team he scored what proved to be the winner in the penalty shoot-out!

Craig scored his first competitive goal for the club in the Scottish Junior Cup 2nd round home-tie against West Calder United, opening the scoring with a 30 yard screamer in a 13-0 victory.

Petts also scored in the home league 2-1 defeat to Rossvale. However, as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic the League fixtures closed down on the 11th March 2020. Since the teams in the league had played a different number of games the West Region SFA declared the league based on average points with Auchinleck Talbot crowned champions and Glens finishing in 4th position.

Glenafton’s final game, their 20th league game of the season, concluded with a 5-1 victory over Largs Thistle. Indeed this proved to be the last league game under the auspices of the Scottish Junior Football Association following the formation of the West of Scotland Football League (WOSFL).

Season 2020/21: Manager Craig McEwan

Glenafton played 5 pre-season friendlies under the COVID rules. On 11th October 2020 the club notified the WOSFL, along with several other clubs, that they would not be competing league or cup games. The management team resigned andGlenafton released all of their players from their contracts with the best wishes of the club.

However, the pandemic had the last say and the season was closed down, with all the fixtures that had been played were considered null and void.

Season 2021/2: Managers Mick McCann ; Ryan Stevenson

The West of Scotland Football League opened for business at the start of Season 2021/22. The club began to rebuild a squad to compete in the Premier Division comprising a handful of former Glens players returning to the club, including Craig who was appointed club captain; with several other experienced ‘Juniors’ and a good proportion of young players.

Glens got off to a great start with a 3-1 away at Irvine Meadow.

Craig made 44 starts in league and cup games and bagged a couple of goals, both in the league. A bullet header from 6 yards out in a 1-0 home win over Bonnyton Thistle and and header into the roof of the net in a 4-1 win away to Cumnock Juniors.

The Premier Division comprised 20 teams, however reconstruction was planned for the following season to reduce it to 16 teams. As such 7 teams would be relegated and 3 promoted from the First Division. The Glens avoided relegation finishing in 12th place while there were early exits in the Cup competitions.

Season 2022/23: Manager Ryan Stevenson

The new 16 team Premier Division came into play and Glens finished in 10th place comfortably avoiding relegation from the bottom 3. Craig scored in the 3-2 defeat away to Pollok, drilling a low shot from the 18 yard line.

The club enjoyed a good run in the Scottish Junior Cup reaching the Semi-final only to lose out to neighbours Cumnock Juniors who went on to win the trophy.

Season 2023/24: Manager Ryan Stevenson; Mark Roberts, Ryan Caddis

The start of Season 2023/24 saw Glenafton Athletic granted membership of the Scottish Football Association at the SFA Annual General Meeting, Hampden Park on 6th June 2024, allowing the club to gain entry to the Scottish Cup. Glens had previously entered the competition in Season 2017/18 as West Region Champions (and Scottish Junior Cup winners).

The league campaign began with a trip to Darvel where Craig made his 100th start from Glenafton and celebrated a 2-1 victory.

Darvel later turned the table knocking the Glens out of the Scottish Cup and the Scottish Junior Cup.

Glens reached the 4th round of the WOSFL Cup and the Quarter Final of the South Challenge Cup only to lose out against Shotts Bon Accord at Loch Park on both occasions.

The league campaign got off to a poor start. Having amassed only 12 points in the first half of the season saw the departure of two managers, however a third delivered 21 points in the second half of another challenging season. Premier Division survival was secured on the penultimate game of the season by 1 point with a 5-0 cuffing of Cumnock at Loch Park.

Pre-season included a friendly at home to Partick Thistle, the Glasgow club having signed former Glens player Luke McBeth last season. A minutes silence was observed for the recent passing of Gerry Collins, having managed both clubs.

Although the league campaign began with two victories there was only one point added in the next five games. Glens made early exits in two cup competitions two 3rd Division sides.

Former Glens player Paul Paton was appointed manager in September and kicked off with a 4-1 win away at Ellon United in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Junior Cup. Victories over Deveronside and Bathgate followed to set up an astonishing 5th Round tie away to Tranent where the home side went in at the break 3-0 up only for Glens to fight back to 3-3 before the final twist with the home side scoring a late late winner.

The league form began to improve including a 2-0 home win over Beith which proved to be Craig’s last match at Loch Park. Sadly the following week he sustained a serious knee injury at the game away to Drumchapel United, and his season was over. Craig supported the team from the sidelines the Glens pulled clear of the relegation battle to finished in 10th place

Craig has played a huge part as Glenafton has had to rebuild from scratch following the release of all their players in Season 2020/21 and will be greatly missed, both on and of the park. So too will his family, who follow him home and away. Everyone at the club would to thank Craig and wish him all the best’, and hopefully ‘he still has another year in him‘.

Glenafton made three changes to the eleven that started against St. Cadoc’s last Saturday with Kyle Fraser, Ryan McCubbin and Cammy Ross (suspended) making way for Sam McKee, Evan Maley and Chris Erskine (returning from injury).

In the Pollok dug-out was goalkeeper coach Billy Peacock who of course a member of the Glens Scottish Junior Cup, Premier League and Evening Times League Champions Cup treble in Season 2016/17.

Glenafton were accompanied by the Glenafton 2014s as they marched on to Loch Park bathed in glorious sunshine in the last game of the season for the New Cumnock side while Pollok have two remaining fixtures.

Pollok kicked off and were soon on the front foot in terms of territorial possession. On 7 minutes a shot was deflected inches wide of the post for a corner kick. Jamie Bain floated the kick from the left to the back post for Calum Gow only for Ollie Rowe to block the ball allowing keeper David Markey to rush from his line to smother the ball.

The Glens defence was kept busy with Lyall Holding leaping high on the six-yard line to head clear Sean O’Donnell’s attempt to pick out the inrushing Stephen Docherty. Markey was kept busy having to race the far corner of the penalty box and soon after cleanly clutch a high ball to the near post.

On 15 minutes former Lok midfielder Ross Lindsay robbed the ball from Bain to progress to the centre circle and release Chris Erskine up the right which concluded with Glens winning a corner. Lindsay curled the kick to the far side of the six-yard where former Pollok striker Shuggy Kerr outjumped Scot Forrester only his header to fly high over the bar.

Back came Lok and Chris O’Kane, from the left and some 25 yards out, bulleted a header high towards the near post for striker Adam Forde and although Markey won the aerial battle, he could only finger-tip the ball, pushing it across the face of goal and then beating Forde to collect the loose ball.

Forrester launched a free-kick high into the Glens box and it was Forde’s header that flew across the goalmouth only beyond the reach of Forrester who chased it down and from close to the corner whipped it back into the six-yard box for Forde only for Holding to intercept sending a high looping header to the edge of the ‘D’ where Rowe cleared after a couple of attempts.

Midway through the half O’Kane burst down the left touchline and squared the ball into the box for the Docherty to blast a shot of goal only for it to crash of Rowe sending him to the ground triggering three Lok players to raise their arms to claim for a penalty, but the referee in close proximity played on. Andrew Gaffney chased down the ball and clipped it back into the box for Forde only for Holding to intercept and head it back to Markey.

At the other end Glens won a free kick on the right with players from both sides stretched along the 18-yard line. Lindsay whipped the ball deep into the box with Rowe first to break ranks and flash a header from 8 yards out beyond the reach of the diving keeper Ryan Truesdale and inches wide of the post.

Time for a water-break as the sun continued to beat down on Loch Park some 40 miles nearer the equator than the sooth-side of Glesca.

The water-break worked wonders on the home side as the Glens beginning with Willet’s throw-in from deep on the left and followed with a dozen or so passes involving most of the team that saw the ball ‘recycled’ as they say – up the left, across the park, back down the right, across the park for Willet to roll up the left wing for David Craig to square inside to Mullen and although O’Kane stabbed the ball from his toe it fell for Lindsay who fed Evan Maley, in space in the centre-circle in the Pollok half, from where the midfielder pushed forward to the outskirts of the ‘D’ and cracked a shot beyond the diving keeper, at full stretch some five yards off his line. Glens 1 Pollok 0, 27 minutes.

Despite the heat the tempo of the game picked up as play now raged back and forth with defences very much on top. Maley turned provider and clipped a ball up the right for Kerr to chase and break into the right hand side of the box and with two defenders on tail he opted to drill a low diagonal shot that Truesdale smothered on his six-yard line. At the other end Forde burst into the left hand of the box with Rowe in pursuit, only for Markey to race of his line block the striker’s shot at the expense of a corner. Bain’s kick was headed high into the air at the near post by Erskine and cleared on its descent by Maley.

On 43 minutes Willet, on the left and deep in Pollok’s half, took a short throw to Erskine who took a sore one, before Willet picked up the loose ball and slipped it to Kerr to drive to corner of the box and few steps later with a wall of Lok players in his way he rolled the ball back to Mullen on the 18 yard line to curl a thunderous shot round a clutch of players and beyond the keeper who could only watch as the ball smashed off the crossbar and in danger of taking out the oystercatcher that had been circling the ground for most of the game. Meanwhile Chris Erskine required treatment from physio Laura Pagan, in what was her final match with the Glens.

The home side kicked off and two minutes later Kerr and Mullen combined to evade a band of defenders on the outskirts of Lok’s box before Mullen edged his way into the ‘D’ and lobbed a shot beyond the reach of the keeper on the six-yard line only for this bar to deny him a goal as well.

Glens dominated possession in the Pollok half without testing the keeper while the visitors enjoyed occasional breaks upfield, in particular Doherty down the left.

On the hour mark Allan, from tight on the left, clipped the ball forward to Kerr who in turn rolled the ball into the box for Craig to chase and with Calum Gow on his heels, the young midfielder drilled a low angled shot that keeper Truesdale did well to get down at the corner of the six-yard box and push it wide to his left and cleared by Forrester as Mullen threatened. The home side continued to press and Willet’s lob from the edge of the box flew high over the bar.

Pollok countered down the right moving with neat short passes before chipping the ball forward for Forde on the outskirts of the box only for Allan to intercept and head the ball down for Lindsay to gather and square the ball to Sam McKee on his right, still deep in the Glens half. From here McKee set off on a wonderful run, drifting out to the right wing where a double shuffle saw off the chasing Docherty who surrendered on the half-way line before the midfielder cut inside to drive to the edge of the box where he threaded a perfectly weighted ball between Lee Duncanson and O’Kane to match the run of Michael Mullen darting between Gow and Kyle Faulds before drilling a low angled shot from 8 yards past the advancing keeper; a fitting finish to McKee’s brilliant assist. Glens 2 Pollok 0, 64 minutes

Pollok mustered a couple of attacks including one up the left that backfired after Maley forced substitute Liam Lapsley to roll the ball back to Duncanson only for McKee to divert it into the path of Kerr on the half-way line and gather the one-two before slotting it forward for Craig who skipped past the back-tracking Lapsley before stroking a glorious long ball into the right hand side of the box for Kerr to burst in from the wing and beat Duncanson to the ball just short of the by-line and after a quick turn lashed the ball from the corner of the six yard box into the far side of the net. Glens 3 Pollok 0, 72 minutes.

The celebrations had the striker showing his boxing moves that will be on show on the forthcoming ‘Loch Park Rumble’ charity event.

On 78 minutes Glens made a double substitution with Lyall Holding and Evan Maley making way for Dean Currie and Ryan McCubbin.

Soon after Kerr gathered the ball on the outskirts of the box and set himself up for a shot from the left-hand corner of the box only for the keeper to get a touch sending the ball inches wide of the back post, and the corner-kick that followed was cleared.

On 82 minutes the home side made another double substitution with Kyle Fraser and Ryan Walker replacing Ross Lindsay and Sam McKee.

Pollok enjoyed a spell of possession in and around the Glens box and Walker’s challenge on Faulds earned a free kick on the outskirts of the box. Forde curled the ball taking a nick of the head of the leaping Currie forcing Markey to claw the ball away from under the bar and then race to catch the loose ball as Lapsley threatened; much to delight of the young Markey fan club behind the goals!

Glens countered in lethal fashions as Mullen burst into the left hand side of the box only for his cut-back from the goal-line for the inrushing Craig to be intercepted by Gow before the alert Jared Willet pounced to drill the loose ball from the corner of the six yard through a ruck of players and into the net. Glens 4 Pollok 0, 87 minutes.

Credit to Pollok they pushed forward in numbers in search of a consolation winning a corner kick that was eventually scrambled clear.

Into added time and Mullen and Kerr combined in a busy box, playing a couple of one-twos that latter of which saw Kerr’s shot from inside the six-yard box bravely blocked on the line by Forrester.

So, the Glens season drew to a conclusion with their largest league win of 2024/25.

Glenafton made two changes to the eleven that started against Clydebank last Saturday with Sam McKee and Chris Erskine (injury) making way for Kyle Fraser and Hugh Kerr.

In the St. Cadoc’s starting eleven was defender Richie McKillen who played for four seasons at the Glens (2009/10-2012/13).

Prior to kick-off, the referee required the Glens goalie David Markey to change his strip, due to a clash with St. Cadoc’s colours, and took to the pitch with the home side’s all yellow 2^nd strip.

St. Cadoc’s kicked off and were first to threaten through Bob McHugh’s shot from the left-hand side of the box that was well held by David Markey. Soon after Leo Adam tried from the same position only for Lyall Holding to clear at the expense of a corner, that came to nothing.

Glens countered through Shuggy Kerr winning a header on the half-way line that Michale Mullen collected and pushed forward before slipping the ball to Cammy Ross on the overlap tight on the right to drill it low to the near post for David Craig only for Richie McKillen to clear for a corner. Ross Lindsay from the right floated the ball to the far post where Adam, fixed at the post, headed it high off the line and over the bar. Lindsay’s corner from the left was cleared, after some head tennis by Munro and McKillen.

At other end the busy Adam, from the edge of box, clipped the ball between Ross and Kyle Fraser for McHugh to leap only for his header to dip over the bar.

Back came Glens and Lindsay floated a free-kick from the left, just inside Cadocs half, which was headed back out the box by Daniel McManus and recovered by McCubbin, to push forward only for Neill McLaughlin to rob the ball on the outskirts of the box and forward to set up a lethal counter-attack which concluded with Ronan Sweeney breaking into the box at the right hand side of the ‘D’ , drawing Markey off his line before clipping a low angled shot into the far side of the net. St Cadoc’s 1 Glens 0, 17 minutes.

McManus and Adam combined on the left-hand side of the box to pick out Sweeney on the edge of six-yard box, only for his touch to send the ball inches wide of the post.

At other end Kerr slipped past McKillen before clipping the ball up wing, taking Beejay Coll out of play, for David Craig to drive to the bye-line and whip the ball into the heart of the box for Mullen and with Munro and McKillen closing in, he smacked a shot through the legs of the latter taking a deflection which fell comfortably into hands of the keeper on his knees

The home side countered in lethal fashion again. The ball was rolled into the right hand side of the box for Sweeney to chase, Glens claiming for offside, however Sweeney drilled a low angled show past the advancing Markey for the far post, seemingly a mirror image of his opening goal, only for the ball to rebound off the post and fall for Daniel McManus to stroke it into the net from the six-yard line. St. Cadoc’s 2 Glens 0, 25 minutes.

Five minutes later the visitors came close to extending their lead after McHugh from wide on the right curled an inch perfect cross to the back post for the lively Neil McLaughlin only for his header from the six-yard line to drop over the bar.

On 33 minutes Glens were reduced to 10 men after Cammy Ross was shown a second yellow card by the referee, both debatable, following a collision with McManus.

St. Cadoc’s continued press and Sweeny from right hand side of a busy box to the far side of the six-yard box for the inrushing McLaughlin to square it back across the goalmouth only for Holding to clear as McHugh closed in.

Munro curled a corner in from the right and although McLaughlin won the aerial battle in the six-year box his glancing header slipped inches wide of the back post.

Glenafton made two changes at the break with Kyle Fraser and Ross McCubbin making way for Sam McKee and Evan Maley.

Play flowed back and forth with a couple of half chances at either end before the home side turned up the heat on the 10 men.

As always McLaughlin seemed to glide effortlessly across the width and breadth of the pitch and on gathering a ball at the edge of the box from McManus he clipped it inside to McHugh who in turn tried to pick out the incoming McManus only for Maley to slide and clear for a corner. The kick was fired to the far side of the six-yard box for McHugh to hook it back towards the far post where a clutch of players was gathered only for Markey to get an outstretched hand to push the ball away and Holding hoof it cleared the danger, as McHugh tried to pull the yellow jersey off Markey but without a yellow card!

The Glens began to enjoy some possession in St. Cadoc’s half without however creating any clear chances until Kerr and Mullen combined to pull one back on 64 minutes. Anton Brady and Kerr both chased a ball played down the left with the St. Cadoc’s player looking favourite to recover it, only for Kerr to win control with a header before driving into the left-hand side of the box where the back-tracking Brady was now joined by Beejay Coll. The Glens striker, now 4 yards from bye-line, took them both out of play with diagonal cut-back to the incoming Michael Mullen to curl a left-footed shot between Dom Slattery and McKillen that whizzed past the static Coll on the six-yard line and into top corner of the net beyond the reach of the motionless keeper Currie. St. Cadoc’s 2 Glens 1, 64 minutes.

Played raged back and forth for a good spell with the spirit of the ten men of Glens lifted, however the eleven men back to dominate the chances on show.

Munro floated a corner from the right high into the goalmouth where Markey leapt punch it away with both fists back towards the corner flag only for Munro to clip the ball beyond the back post where Slattery bulleted a downward header that Markey grabbed with both hands.

Soon after Hughes won the ball on the outskirts of the left-hand side of the box and picked out McManus in space at the far-side of the ‘D’ and as Rowe closed in, he curled a shot that well over the junction of the crossbar and the post.

On 76 minutes St.Cadoc’s made a triple substitution with McManus, Sweeney and Munro making way for Junior McQuilken, Paddy Gallagher and Lewis McTaggart.

McTaggart made an immediate impact after trapping the ball on the 18 yard-line, at the right of the ’D’, drawing Markey off his line and slotting the ball into the net. St. Cadoc’s 3 Glens 2, 74 minutes.

Soon after McTaggart drives into the right-hand side of the box before blasting a low shot that Holding deflected out for a corner kick which Market leapt to punch clear.

Glens were beginning to push forward on occasion with McKee, Maley and Craig supporting Kerr and Mullen, however it was the home side that were still creating the chances, the best of which saw Brady blasting the ball high over the bar from 18 yards.

On 78 minutes Glens made a double substitution with Jordan Allan and Dean Currie replacing Lyall Holding and Jared Willet.

The pair were soon in action after Brady from wide on the left whipped a vicious cross into the goalmouth where Allan leapt to head the ball high into the air to be met on its descent with a header from Currie. The loose ball was chased down by Brady and fed out to McTaggart on the right and after a scramble he retained the ball and clipped it across the face of goalmouth beating Markey off his line at his near post to run on to the back post where McLaughlin tapped it home, but from an offside position.

St. Cadoc’s continued to press forcing Glens to camp in and around their box. Another ball from wide on the right wad drilled towards the near post where the incoming Paddy Gallagher directed it goalward only for Markey to pull off a great save get down low to push the ball off the line. The loose ball was recovered by the home side and another attack was thwarted by a disciplined defence.

On 86 minutes Glens made their final substitution with Ross Lindsay making way for Ryan Walker.

Some respite for the visitors when another St. Cadoc’s attacked was repelled after Dean Currie won the ball and lofted it upfield for Mullen to chase and after giving McKillen the slip the ball bounced up just before the ‘D’ only for the striker’s attempt to lob the ball into the was comfortably caught by keeper Currie on the six-yard line.

Back came St. Cadoc’s and after Hughes won the loose ball on the outskirts of the box, he rolled it to Gallagher to curl a shot from 18 yards that Markey caught on his goal line. Soon after Gallagher cut along the 18 yard line only to be robbed off the ball which then fell kindly for Hughes to take a touch before lashing an angled shot that flew beyond the reach of the diving Markey only to crash off the bar before Allan launched the ball upfield.

Kerr beat McKillen to the ball and on breaking into the right-hand corner of the box laid it off to the overlapping Michael Mullen and despite beingsandwiched between McKillen and Hughes he leathered a low angled shot from yards that he whizzed past Coll and substitute keeper Conor Sheerin at full stretch into the far corner of the net – the stirker’s 23^rd goal of the season! St. Cadoc’s 3 Glens 2, 93 minutes.

On 95 minutes the ten men conjured up a final chance after Currie won the ball on the outskirts of the Glens box and laid it off to Maley who in turn clipped it forward to Craig breaking down the left before feeding it inside to Kerr to take a touch and quickly set up shot from 20 yards as defenders closed in, only for it to fly high over the bar.

Two further minutes of added time followed before the game concluded.

Glenafton made three changes to the eleven that started against Gartcairn last Saturday with Kyle Fraser, Jamie Taggart and Evan Maley making way for Lyall Holding, Sam McKee and David Craig.

In the Clydebank starting eleven was former Glenafton player Lee Gallacher and off course the Bankie’s manager was former Glens player Gordon Moffat.

Prior to kick-off Glenafton players, manager and coaching staff formed a guard of honour to applaud Clydebank players, manager and coaching staff on being crowned Premier Division Champions Season 2024/25.

After a fairly even start Clydebank won a corner on left on 4 minutes which Lee Gallacher floated to the back post and was headed out by Ryan McCubbin and cleared by David Craig.

Back came Bankies switching play from wide on the right to wide on the left in a slick regimented fashion – captain Little, Cairns, McGowan & Truesdale – the latter whipping the ball into the box for Little now stationed there, only for captain Ollie Rowe to intercept and the thin blue line cleared the danger, for now!

Truesdale gathered the ball on the left on the 18 yard line and advanced to the bye-line before cutting the ball across the face of the goal by-passing a clutch of defenders and a couple of Bankies at the near post and was met by the inrushing Nicky Little, nicking between two more Glens players, to drill a low angled shot from 8 yards out into the net. Bankies 1 Glens 0, 7 minutes.

Cammy Ross broke down the right, tight on the touchline, leaving Low and McGowan in his wake before whipping a cross into the box for the incoming Michael Mullen only for Matt Niven to launch off the Glens striker’s shoulder and head the ball clear.

Soon after Chris Erskine outleapt the stationary David Syme to knock on a header that Mullen gathered and before Syme got near, fired a shot from 22 yards that was blocked by McGowan.

Bankies countered in a far from regimented fashion this time, beginning with Niven pinging a diagonal pass from just outside the box to McGowan on the left who then rolled the ball into the Glens half to Truesdale tight on the left to lob the ball, between Ryan McCubbin and Lyall Holding, high to the edge of the box where Keir Samson got the jump on Jared Willet to head the ball back to Little to crack a shot from 22 yards that flew high over the bar.

Play raged back and forth before Glens enjoyed a spell of possession in the Bankies half. Ross chased down a ball into the right-hand side of the box before driving towards the bye-line only for his cross into the goalmouth to deflect off the back-tracking Truesdale’s head allowing the ball to drop for Niven to hoof clear. McKee then broke down the right, slipping past Cairns, before chipping a ball high towards the corner of the six-yard box for Mullen, only for Syme to win the aerial battle on this occasion.

On 19 minutes Ross Lindsay stripped Truesdale of the ball on the Glens 18 yard line and clipped it upfield to the half-way line for Mullen to gather and drive forward, cutting inside between Niven and Syme before slipping the ball to Erskine to knock it towards the Bankies box and although he left Syme in his wake, Leishman raced from his line to hoof the ball clear.

Soon after, Holding nicked the ball from Truesdale on the edge of the Glens box and picked out Erskine who released the ball to the half-way line for Mullen to body swerve Niven before squaring to David Craig who quickly slipped it up the left wing for McKee to drive into the box only for the chasing James Grant’s sliding tackle to knock the ball out for a corner.

Lindsay curled the corner kick, high to the outskirts of the six-yard box, but with no takers it rolled out towards the far touchline and although Holding won the race for the ball his attempt to float it into the goalmouth was blocked by McGowan, Holding then gathered the rebound to launch the ball into the box again to be headed clear by Niven. It was Craig’s turn to snap up the loose ball and pick out Erskine to run circles round Little and Truesdale before slipping the ball to Craig who gave the static Cairns the slip on his way into box before releasing Ross down the right to whip the ball across the face of goal falling eventually wide on the left near the corner which was quickly swamped by players from both sides.

The Bankies had now recovered the ball after a period of sustained pressure by Glens, albeit without the visitors having tested Leishman, and countered in lethal fashion.

Gallacher picked out Truesdale deep in the Bankies box before sprinting upfield by which time Truesdale had launched the ball to Samson, some 10 yards inside the Glens half, from where he clipped the ball back into the Bankies half for the advancing Gallacher to gather and push forward before threading a perfectly weighted ball between two defenders to match Keir Samson’s run into the right hand side of the box, his first touch enough to angle the ball past the advancing Markey into the far side of the net. Bankies 2 Glens 0, 23 minutes.

Five minutes later Gallacher cut inside from tight on the right touchline to ping a ball to Samson in the ‘D’ who tried to play it short for Little but the ball slipped past and fell for McKee but his attempt to square to Ollie Rowe drifted wide and the inrushing Craig Truesdale pounced on the ball to clip it past Markey from the six-yard line. Bankies 3 Glens 0, 27 minutes.

A shell-shocked Glens pushed forward and Ross won a corner on the right which Lindsay floated to the outskirts of a crowded six-yard line where McCubbin won the aerial battle sending the ball high into the air falling for Rowe but his header with his back to goal drifted wide of the post.

Soon after Glens stifled another Bankies attack and countered through Erskine who nutmegged Syme on the centre circle before pushing on and riding a tackle from McGowan only to be floored by Truesdale’s sliding tackle from behind some 6 yards short of the box. Lindsay curled the free-kick over the wall only for Rowe’s glancing header to sail wide of the pack post.

Niven intercepted a cross for Mullen sending the ball high into the air as both players positioned themselves for its descent, a few yards inside the box. The Glens striker had little chance of winning the ball as Niven tightly clenched his upper arm with both hands, to win the header and although McCubbin beat McGowan to the loose ball out by the corner flag. he was pushed in the back. Lindsay floated the free-kick high into the six yard box only for Leishman to come off his line and pluck the ball out the air as Rowe challenged.

On 36 minutes Glens continued to press and Erskine picked out McCubbin who slipped it forward to Mullen on the edge of the ‘D’ although faced with a line of 4 defenders he managed to blast a shot from 18 yards that Leishman, at full stretch, managed to finger-tip the ball inches wide of the post before plucking the corner that followed, clean out the air.

Leishman then launched a long throw down the left for Low to gather before he launched the ball to switch play to the right where Gallacher trapped and dinked the ball into the box for the inrushing full back Grant and although his low angled shot beat Markey, Ross was in hand to clear the danger.

Soon after Bankies added a fourth as Syme pushed forward before picking out McGowan tight on the left to drive forward and whip a great ball into the box where Keir Samson bulleted a downward header into the net from six yards out. Bankies 4 Glens 0, 37 minutes.

Back came Glens through Ross breaking down the right to curl a great ball high into the six-yard box for the inrushing Erskine only for Leishman to leap and gather the ball cleanly.

At the other end Little’s shot from 22 yards out zoomed over the bar although Markey appeared to have it covered.

Erskine then broke into the Bankies half only for the chasing McGowan to take his turn and take the feet from him. Lindsay played the free kick short to Erskine who skipped past Lowe to break deep into the right-hand side of the box but his cross was headed out for a corner by McGowan which was then headed off the line by Samson.

On 43 minutes Deans brought down Erskine some 32 yards from goal as Bankies built a wall at the ‘D’, up stepped Mullen to leather the ball that flew past the diving keeper and just past the post.

Chris Erskine had picked up an injury and was replaced with Shuggy Kerr at the break.

The Bankies kicked off but it was Glenafton that were first to threaten through Ross bursting down the right touchline and disentangling himself from Truesdale’s grip to whip a cross high into the six-yard box as McGowan closed in for the inrushing Kerr, breaking between Niven and Syme, only for his header to loop high over Leishman and the bar.

Bankies then enjoyed a period of pressure in and around the Glens beginning with Samson drilling a low angled shot from the left-hand side of the box that Markey blocked at the near post at the expense of a corner, while denying Samson his hat-trick. The corner was floated to the far side of the six-yard box where Syme bulleted a header that cracked off the post and bounced off the bar before Little’s attempt to head the descending ball was penalised, possibly a hand ball? Soon after, Gallacher floated a free-kick from wide on the left into the box where the Syme and Samson head tennis ended with the ball going well wide of target.

At the other end Kerr held off Syme and McGowan before laying the ball off to Mullen who released McKee to break down the right before whipping a high ball into the box for the inrushing Kerr and although he outleapt Grant and Niven his header drifted out of play.

On 59 minutes Bankies brought on Oisin McHugh for Nicky Low and he was soon in the thick of the action as the home side broke into the Glens box in numbers which concluded with Grant’s header falling for McHugh on the 18-yard line to thunder a shot that dipped over the bar.

More changes on 68 minutes saw Bankies replace Lee Gallacher and Chris Truesdale with Liam McGonigle and Aaron Black. The home side continued to press and hat-trick hunter Samson flashed a low angled shot that whizzed inches wide of the post, albeit Markey had it covered.

McKee broke down a Bankies attack deep on the right and clipped the ball to Kerr in the centre-circle who in turn rolled it back to Lindsay before breaking through the middle with Niven for company while Mullen peeled off to the right to collect Lindsay’s pass. With Niven and Syme covering Kerr at the edge of the box, Mullen cut inside and pushed forward to the right of the ‘D’ only for the back-tracking Cairns to push him in the back, but not with the strength to deter the Glens striker, who then guided a low shot from 14 yards past Syme only for Leishman to fumble and it was Michael Mullen that was first to react to beat both Leishman and McHugh to the loose ball and clip it into the far side of the net. Bankies 4 Glens 1, 72 minutes.

On 75 minutes Glens made a double substitution with Ryan McCubbin and Sam McKee making way for Dean Currie and Ryan Walker.

Mullen continued to torment the Bankies back-line as he gave Niven the slip before breaking into the box only for his shot to fly over the bar.

On 82 minutes Bankies made a double substitution with Danny McKenzie replacing James Grant and Matt Niven making way for Jamie Darroch in his last game for the club before his retirement.

Glens broke down a Bankies attack allowing Willet to gather the ball and drive through the centre circle before slipping the ball wide to Kerr who then cut inside to lash a shot from 25 yards that dipped just wide of the post.

On 83 minutes Glens brought on Kyle Fraser for Cammy Ross.

Bankies broke forward in numbers again and in a busy box Little’s low shot was blocked by Currie while Mullen picked up the loose ball before firing it down the left for Kerr only for McGowan to intercept and head out for a throw.

Lindsay gathered Willet’s shy and clipped the ball forward to Mullen who played it up the wing for Walker who then rolled it back to Willet to lay it off for Craig to cut inside and feed Fraser on the outskirts of ‘D’ and from here he pushed forward before clipping a diagonal pass for Michael Mullen to take a touch before blasting a low shot from 22 yard that took a bounce and beat the Leishmann at full stretch into the far corner of the net. Bankies 4 Glens 2, 87 minutes.

Back came Glens as Craig pounced on Darroch’s chested clearance and slipped it wide to Mullen to burst down the right to the corner of the box to curl a low ball into the far side of the six-yard box but just beyond the inrushing Kerr.

At other end in the closing minute of the game, Samson still hungry for his hat-trick, burst into the right-hand side of the box only for his shot to fly high over the bar.

Into added time and Bankies won a corner which McGonigle floated high into the heart of the box where Darroch won the header sending the ball back towards the right hand side of the box where Kerr headed it clear to the outskirts of the box only for Black to head the ball back into box for Syme to head into the path of the inrushing McGonigle to lay off to Samson with Willet tight on his back who was adamant he got a touch on the ball before McGonigle collided with Samson, leaving his team-mate rolling on the ground clutching his shins.

The referee had a different view and awarded a spot-kick. Jamie Darroch was handed the ball to take his last kick in a distinguished career and ultimately his last goal. Bankies 5 Glens 2, 94 minutes.

Congratulations again to Clydebank, on winning the Premier Division title, worthy Champions.

Glenafton started with the same eleven that kicked off away at Troon last Saturday.

Although Gartcairn kicked off, it was Glenafton that mounted the first attack. Chris Erskine gathered the ball in the visitors half before releasing Jamie Taggart down the left to drive to the bye-line and clip the ball into the goalmouth which was mopped up by the Gartcairn defence to counter-attack down the left through Kamil Krol only for Cammy Ross to bring their attack to an end.

Back came Krol bursting down the left before cutting inside to the bye-line where Ross’s slide-tackle knocked the ball out for a corner. Dale Simeon curled the kick into the six-yard box where it took a bounce and struck the hand of Glens captain Ollie Rowe at the back post. There was little it he could have done about and the referee pointe to the spot ups stepped Harry Mitchell to send keeper David Markey the wrong way. Glens 0 Gartcairn 1, 7 minutes.

The home side responded in fine fashion. A throw from the half way line into the Gartcairn half saw Michael Michael Mullen win the aerial battle with Andrew McDonald to head the ball further upfield before peeling off and breaking up the right as Chris Erskine, on the outskirts of the box with his back to goal, gathered and shielded the ball from Scott Rumsby and after some juggling gave Kyle Hutton the slip before threading a perfectly weighted pass beyond his two markers to match Ryan McCubbin’s run into the box through the ‘D’, with Lewis Clarke on his heels and keeper Charlie Cowie charging off his line, the midfielder met the ball on his stride to drill it home from 12 yards out. A special strike for his first goal for the club. Glens 1 Gartcairn 1, 11 minutes.

Two minutes later Erskine gathered the ball on the outskirts of the box and weaving his way into the ‘D’ he rolled the ball wide to Taggart breaking into the left-hand side of the box, only his shot didn’t match the quality of his run as the ball drifted high and wide of target.

Gartcairn then enjoyed a good period of pressure in and around the Glens box from corner-kicks and Lewis Clarke’s long throw-ins into the goalmouth, keeping the home defence on their toes with good clearing headers from Rowe and Jarred Willet. On the half-hour mark Clarke’s long throw from the right was cleared to the edge of the box by Ross only for Krol to crack a low shot that keeper Markey did well to get down low and smother the ball at the base of the post.

Glens countered with McCubbin winning a corner-kick on the right that was plucked out the air by keeper Cowie who then launched the ball upfield to mount another attack for the visitors. Back came Glens with Mullen breaking into the left-hand side of the box on a couple of occasions but ‘long-throw specialist’ Clarke foiled him with well time tackles.

On 40 minutes Andy McDonald from the left-hand side of a busy box cracked an angled shot to beat Markey at his near post only to hit the underside of the bar and then bounce off the inside of the far post and fall into the arms of the keeper, still at the near post!

Glens Evan Maley pulled up soon after and was replaced by David Craig.

On the stroke of half-McCubbin picked out Craig at the edge of ‘D’ who threaded the ball into the left-hand side of the box for Mullen to chase down only for Clarke to block his way, sending him tumbling to the ground and the ball un out of play. Appeals for a penalty were waved away!

An early break for the Glens ended with Ross Lindsay’s shot from the edge of the ‘D’ flying over the bar.

Soon after, at the other end Gartcairn won a free kick on the outskirts of the box, on the left, which was floated to the back post and headed cleared of the box only for Hutton to gather tight on the right before rolling it down the line for Mitchell to clip into the box to be chased down for the inrushing Dale Simeon to square the ball between two defenders for the incoming Jonny Lyon, only for his fresh-air shot to allow the ball to trundle on for the Kamil Krol to drill a shot from 8 yards into the net between two defenders and Markey on his line. Glens 1 Gartcairn 2, 50 minutes.

The visitors continued to press and Simeon just, short of the bye-line, fired a shot from a tight angle that flew wide of the near post.

Glens responded with a couple of breaks down the left, the second of which saw Taggart’s cross met by Ross but his header from the penalty spot flew over the bar. Soon after, Erskine burst through the middle before rolling the ball into the box for Mullen to gather and turn and blast a low angled shot from 10 yards that beat the rooted keeper only to slip inches wide of the post. The home side continued to press but without penetrating Gartcairn’s box.

On 62 minutes Glenafton made a triple substitution with Kyle Fraser, Ross Lindsay and Cammy Ross making way for Lyall Holding, Sam McKee and Shuggy Kerr while Gartcairn brought on Kieren Wood for Andy McDonald.

Soon after, Mitchell floated a corner from the right to the edge of a busy six-yard line where the leaping Wood’s downward header was blocked on the line by McKee and the ball spun out for another corner which was won in the air by the towering Hutton only for his header to be deflected wide by his team-mate Wood.

Glens countered and won a corner on the right that McKee whipped into the six yard box where Kenny Barr headed the ball clear only to be returned to the box from where Rowe held off Clarke to blast a shot from 10 yards that Cowie, 3 yards of his line, pushed to the side with both hands before Clarke pounced to hoof the ball upfield.

The home side continued to press. Erskine on the right slipped the ball to McKee, tight on the right, only for his cross to be deflected out for a corner which he curled to the edge of the six-yard line where Ollie Rowe from a line of players bulleted a header into the net. Glens 2 Gartcairn 2, 70 minutes.

Back came the Glens, and from the right-hand side of the box, six yards from the bye-line, he whipped a high ball to the other side of the box which Kerr chased down and slipped it to Taggart who then skipped past Clarke and two yards from goal his attempt to clip it past the outstretched leg of the keeper slipped inches wide of the post. Two minutes later Taggart won a corner on the left which McKee floated into the goal mouth where McCubbin won the aerial battle only for header to dip over the bar.

Another McKee corner from the right was cleared to the edge of the box to be met by Holding only for his shot to fly over the bar.

At the other end Gartcairn enjoyed a spell of pressure beginning by forcing Markey to pull off a fine save. Soon after Clarke’s long throw-in from the right sparked a clash of heads between Hutton and Gray at the near post before the ball was scrambled out for a corner on the left. This was curled to the back post where Wood leapt high only for his downward header to drift inches wide of the target.

Play raged back and forward as both sides went in search of a winner and the in the closing minutes Gartcairn heaped the pressure creating a number of chances. Jordan Moore lashed a low angled shot from deep in the box that whizzed wide of the near post. Later the striker burst between Willet and Craig before blasting a low shot from the edge of the box that Markey got down low to push the ball wide of the post.

The corner from the right saw Rowe outleap, Rumsby, to send the ball over the bar and the corner from the left was cleared by Erskine, out for a throw-in from the right. Clarke’s long throw was won in the air by McCubbin and hooked clear by Erskine, just before the handshakes.

Glenafton made one change from the eleven that started against Shotts Bon Accord last week with Shuggy Kerr making way for Chris Erskine. On the bench was midweek signing Dean Currie on his second spell with the club.

The Troon starting eleven included former Glenafton attacking midfielder Dario Viviani while in the dugout was the former Glens assistant manager Andy Bell and legendary attacking midfielder Craig Bingham.

An early chance for Troon when a free kick from the left was floated to the far side of the box where Mark Morrison headed the ball back across the face of goal for Sam Jamieson to crack a shot that was deflected off Ollie Rowe sending the ball high over the bar. The corner kick from the right was played short before switching play to the far side of the box where the ball was clipped into the six-yard box to be headed clear by former Troon midfielder Evan Maley.

Morrison from just inside the right-hand side of the box threaded a forward pass between a clutch of defenders for Kyle Gilroy to drill a low angled shot into the net, however from an offside position.

Troon continued to press, breaking forward in numbers with slick passing, without however forcing keeper David Markey into making a save.

Similarly, Glenafton had enjoyed the occasional break up the right wing without any joy, until midway through the half, when the visitors broke the deadlock.

Cammy Ross bombed up the right with Sam McCloskey in his wake and 12 yards from the bye-line he squared the ball to Michael Mullen on the penalty spot only for the back-tracking Logan Smith to intercept and sliding to knock the ball out for a corner. Ross Lindsay kick from the right was curled high into the heart of the goalmouth where Mullen on the six-yard line cushioned his header between two defenders towards the back post where Ollie Rowe arrived to slide and guide the ball into the net between Morrison and Jamie Gallacher; Glens 1-0 up 25 minutes.

The goal not only put the Glens in front, for just like nearby Barassie beach the tide was about to turn on Portland Park as the visitors began to enjoy long spells of possession with Ryan McCubbin, Ross Lindsay and Evan Daley in the midfield, Cammy Ross and Jamie Taggart on the wings and Chris Erskine and Michael Mullen spearheading attacks.

However, it was the defence played their part in the Glens doubling their lead after Jared Willet lofted a free kick from the centre circle into the left-hand side of the box for Rowe, only for Luke Watt to get a touch and knock the ball out for a corner-kick.

Lindsay curled the ball high to the back post over a packed six-yard box and although it escaped the grasp of the leaping keeper Burgess it was headed cleared beyond the penalty spot by Smith only for Erskine to meet it on the drop and blast a low vicious shot that deflected off a group of three players and bounce up beyond the reach of Burgess on his six-yard line before being blocked by Morrison’s raised hand, in full view of the referee. Despite the Troon pleas the official pointed to the spot and up stepped Michael Mullen to send the keeper the wrong way, slamming the ball low into the right corner. Glens 2-0 up on 40 minutes.

The visitors continued to press through McCubbin gathering the ball, just outside the centre circle in the Troon half, before squaring to Taggart on the left to burst up the wing and then twist and turn to shake off Callan Veitch before progressing a few yards from the bye-line to clip the ball to the back-post for Erskine and Ross, both tightly marked, and it was the former that got his head to ball only for Burgess to clutch it on his goal-line.

Troon took brief comfort and a determined break down the left won a corner which the masked Leyton Dunlop floated into the goal-mouth where Markey leapt to punch clear with both hands from which the Glens countered with a lightning attack. Ross gathered the ball wide on the right and released Maley who then cut inside at the half-way line and with Dario Viviani on his heels he slipped the ball to Mullen who with further assistance from Maley pushed forward to the junction of the left-hand side of the 18 yard box and the bye-line to win a corner by deflecting the ball of the shins of Viviani.

The kick was scrambled clear of the box and the ball snapped up by Erskine to send opponents one way and then the other before slipping it wide to Ross on the right who drilled it up the wing for McCubbin to hold off defenders and progress to the corner flag to whip it into the six yard box for Taggart but he was unable to leap as Morrison appeared to have a fistful of his shirt, out of view from the officials.

Troon countered with a break down the left with Viviani trying to make his way into the box only for Kyle Fraser to stand his ground forcing him instad to pick out Dunlop to switch play to the right- hand side of the box for Gilroy only for the ball to drift over the bye-line.

Troon kicked off and two minutes later Glenafton came close to adding to their tally with a scintillating move. Erskine gathered inside the Glens half who took Dunlop out of play with a pass to Mullen on the centre spot who squared it right to Ross who quickly cut inside and as McCloskey and Watt threatened, he laid the ball back Erskine to prod it forward towards the box before chasing it down forcing Burgess to race some 16 yards from his line and then get the slightest of touch on Erskine’s chip to deflect the ball out for a corner kick which was cleared.

Glens pegged Troon deep in their own half with Ross’s runs down the right in particular presenting all sorts of problems as Mullen and Erskine hovered about the box.

On 55 minutes Troon made a double substitution with Sam McCloskey and Kyle Gilroy making way for Stephen Bronsky and Dean Fulton. Soon after, a break down the right saw Jamieson drive to the bye-line and chip the ball into the goalmouth for the inrushing Fulton only for Markey to leap and clutch it cleanly.

At the other end Lindsay picked out Erskine on the edge of the ‘D’ to weave deep into the box between Dunlop and Bronsky but the alert Burgess rushed from his line again to strip the ball from striker before getting a shot away.

On 64 minutes the lively Taggart took a sore on the back as he challenged for a ball with Smith, the towering centre-back landing on top of him.

Midway through the half Lindsay floated a free kick into the box where Rowe got the jump on Smith to bullet a diagonal header that left Burgess stranded at the near post only for the ball.

Troon replied in dramatic fashion after Dario Viviani gathered the ball some 25 yards from within a cluster of red shirts in front of him before cracking a superb dipping shot that left Markey rooted to his line as it flew into the net. Troon 1 Glens 2 on 70 minutes.

Glens made a substitution on 72 minutes with the injured Jamie Taggart having to leave and making way for Sam McKee.

Play continued to rage back and forth at a relentless pace while defences remained on top.

On 84 minutes Troon made a final substitution with Jack Allan replacing Sam Jamieson and soon after Glens made a change with Chris Erskine making way for David Craig.

The visitors came close to securing the points on 89 minutes after Mullen blasted a low shot from just shy of 30 yards only for Burgess on his six-yards line to dive at full stretch and finger-tip the ball inches wide of the post.

At the other end a ball from wide on the right was whipped to the back post for the inrushing Viviani only to come within a whisker of getting a touch as Markey rushed across his line. Back came Troon with a break down the left and again the ball fired to the back post for Allan only for Willet to win the duel and head the ball to the outskirts of the box where it was quickly recovered by the home side and fine play for Morrison to fire the ball across the goal only for Markey to smother it at the near post as Fulton and Viviani lurked to pounce.

Evan Maley, who had covered every blade of grass of his former hunting ground had taken a knock and was replaced with Ryan Walker. On 96 minutes Rowe took a sore one in the face in accidental clash of heads.

Tension was high and thoughts drifted back to the game at Loch Park when Shuggy Kerr equalised for the Glens on the 95^th minute in a 2-2 draw.

Troon continued to press and Dunlop from wide in the right whipped the ball high into a packed box where Lindsay won the header sending the ball out for a shy some 18 yards from the bye-line. Watt, recently known for scoring twice straight from the corner, launched the ball high into the six-yard box where Bronsky under pressure sent his header high into the air before descending, with snow on it, behind the net.

30 seconds later, on 98 minutes the referee blew for time, 3 valuable points for Glenafton.

Glenafton made two changes to the eleven that started against Auchinleck Talbot last Saturday with Lyall Holding and Jordan Allan replacing Jamie Taggart and Kyle Fraser making his first start for the club, since signing from Ayr United U18. On the bench was fellow Ayr United U18 team-mate David Craig, signed in midweek.

Former Glenafton defender Chris Meikle was missing from Shotts line-up.

Shotts kicked off against a cold strong wind from the east albeit on a sun-drenched bowling green pitch. However, wind assisted Glenafton were soon breaking forward in numbers with former Shotts Junior Cup winner Shuggy Kerr and Evan Maley leading the line.

Ross Lindsay clipped a corner-kick from the left the centre of the goalmouth on the outskirts of the six-yard box for Ryan McCubbin only for his header to deflect off Taylor Evans and bounce wide for another corner. Lindsay lofted this one high towards the far side of the six-yard box tempting keeper Sandy Thomson to come off his and leap from the six-yard line only to fail to get a finger-tip the ball which descended and bounced at the corner of the six-yad box for the quick-thinking McCubbin to rush forward before hooking it back to Ollie Rowe who drilled a low shot from 8 yards out which deflected off Evans and fell for Michael Mullen to drive a low shot from 4 yards past the keeper and two defenders, including one on the goal-line, and into the net Glens 1-0 on 6 minutes.

Play began to ebb back and forth with the only chances coming from long throw-ins at either end both of which were mopped up by each defence in turns.

Soon after the chances on show were elevated to corner kicks. For Shotts, Adam Hunter curled the kick deep into the six-yard box where keeper David Markey leapt to take a touch and deny Rico de Marco a close-range header before Mullen hoofed the loose ball upfield for Jamie Taggart to chase down and win a throw which was gathered by Mullen to win a corner on the left! Lindsay floated it high into the heart of a packed goalmouth and although Kerr won the aerial battle his header soared high over the bar.

Play now raged back and forth with Maley and Taggart looking lively for the Glens, nevertheless, chances at either end were thin on the ground, perhaps of greater concern to the visitors with the wind at their back.

Alistair Martin fired a low shot from 25 yards that deflected off Kyle Fraser sending the ball wide on the right to be chased down by Evans on the bye-line and as Jared Willet closed in he whipped the ball high into the six-yard box where Fraser was in place to head the danger clear.

Midway through the half Maley picked up a pass inside the Shotts’ half before slipping the ball to Lindsay who in turn released Taggart tight on the right to drive down the left only for his cross from the corner flag to be deflected wide. Keeper Thomson leapt high from a yard off his line to safely clutch the ball as Rowe waited to pounce at the back post.

Maley initiated another attack after threading a ball between two defenders for Kerr to gather and drive down the left to the bye-line and although Torrance was on his heels he whipped a low cross to the near post for the incoming Mullen but Thomson was quick off his mark to scoop up the ball.

Soon after Maley was the instigator again beating Jack Gordon to a loose ball and holding off the midfielder to drive to the edge of the ‘D’ only for his shot to take a slight deflection and Thomson did well to stop the corner on the bye-line.

On 33 minutes Shotts won a corner on the left which was floated into the goalmouth where Markey leapt to block with both hands before recovering the loose ball, as the air-borne Torrance threatened.

Soon after a free-kick from wide on the right, close to the bye-line, was floated to the far side of the box for the unmarked Barry Eley to head the ball high towards corner of six-yard box where it was won in the air by Kerr who fell awkwardly from de Marco’s challenge.

Glens then enjoyed a good spell of possession in their opponents’ half but converting this into chances proved more difficult. On 44 minutes Mullen picked up a pass from Taggart on the outskirts of the box and as Adam Hunter closed in, he curled a shot that dipped wide of the far post.

The final chance of the half fell to Shotts from a corner on the right that Gordon floated to the back post where Evans leapt to send a looping header that dipped inches over the crossbar, although the leaping Markey took no chances and had it covered with a leap and an outstretched arm.

Shotts made a double substitution at the break with Adam Hunter and Jack Gordon making way for Ally Small and Ben Richford.

Glens kicked off, against the wind, and won an early corner on the right which was curled high into the six-yard box which Thomson cleanly collected under pressure from Rowe on the goal-line.

Willet launched a long ball down the right for Mullen in a chase with Torrance and on overtaking the Shotts defender at the edge of the box he forced the keeper to rush from his line which in turn forced Mullen to lob the ball from 16 yards out which sailed over the bar, as the Glens striker was floored by the keeper’s slide tackle – a long stare to the assistant referee fell on deaf eyes!

Taggart and Maley continued to look lively as the visitors just edged the possession play which perhaps forced Shotts into another substitution as Joshua Gracie made way for Daniel Burns on 56 minutes. A minute later Paul Byrne from wide on the left whipped a ball into box, which took a big bounce over the head of Taggart and fell for the inrushing de Marco and the coming together of the two players ended with the forward being sent tumbling to the ground. Up stepped captain Alistair Martin to slot home the penalty, sending Markey the wrong way and the ball into the right-hand corner of the net. Shotts 1 Glens 1 on 58 minutes.

With their tails up Shotts won back to back corners from left and right respectively that were stoutly defended by the visitors. The home side introduced fresh legs on 62 minutes with Andrew Duffy replacing Barry Eley.

Shotts were upfield in numbers when Lindsay nicked the ball from Sexton to burst through the middle into their opponents half and although his attempt to pick out Cammy Ross wide on the left was intercepted, Maley recovered the ball and picked out Taggart on the left to drive forward and cut inside to the edge of the box only for Sexton to rob the ball.

Soon after another Shotts attack was snuffed out with Taggart and Maley leading the counter-attack that concluded with the former driving deep into the left-hand side of the Shotts box only for his attempt to square the ball for the incoming Mullen to be blocked by Evans at the expense of a corner kick. Lindsay floated the ball high into the six yard box for the leaping Kerr but keeper Thomson leapt higher and plucked the ball out the air.

Midway through the half the Glens made a tactical change with defensive midfielder Ryan McCubbin replaced by attacking midfielder Chris Erskine who was immediately in the thick of things, switching play from the right to Taggart on the left to cut inside Sexton only to sky his shot from the edge of the ‘D’.

Back came Glens through Erskine playing a one-two with Mullen on the right, before driving inside and picking out Maley, who in turn slipped the ball to Taggart on the left-hand corner of the box to take Sexton out of play and complete a glorious one-two with Maley who then progressed to the corner of the six-yard box before squaring the ball across the face of goal but neither Mullen or Kerr could connect.

Glens continued to press but could not break down a well drilled defence. Ross burst down the right to the edge of the box before drilling a diagonal pass for Kerr on the penalty spot only for Duffy to intercept. Mullen then chased down a ball to progress to the ‘D’ and with three defenders in his path he lobbed the ball over their heads only for Thomson to comfortably collect on the six-yard line.

On 75 minutes Shotts countered with a powerful run from Evans through the middle, showing Erskine and Taggart a clean pair of heels, before lobbing ball from 25 yards that flew over Markey’s head and the bar.

On 81 minutes Glens brought midweek signing David Craig on for Ross Lindsay.

Soon after a Shotts free kick was won in the air by Duffy at the edge of the box but the header drifted wide of the far post.

On 83 minutes Shotts brought on Liam Craig for Rico de Marco while Glens brought on Ryan Walker for Jamie Taggart.

Cammy Ross burst down the left, weaving past Sexton, before whipping a ball into the box for Walker to gather at the far end only for his shot to flash wide of target.

Glens continued to press before Shotts enjoyed a spell of possession in and around the Glens box. In the closing the minute Burns from wide on right drilled a low ball right across face of goal, beyond the reach of Markey at near post to pick out two Shotts players at back post, only for Fraser to get a crucial touch and Rowe to clear the danger.

Back came Glens launching a ball upfield for Mullen to gather and driving forward, slipping wide of Sexton to blast a shot from 25 yards that Thomson pushed wide before tumbling to ground. Ross gathered the loose ball and picked out Erskine to roll it back out to the edge of box for Maley, to curl a shot from the 18 yard line that drifted wide of the far post.

Glenafton made two changes to the eleven that started at Largs last Saturday with Ryan Walker and Chris Erskine making way for Ryan McCubbin and Evan Maley.

Auchinleck’s starting eleven included former Glens midfielder Michael Wardrope.

The match kicked off in atrocious conditions with a strong wind blowing the heavy rain across the length of the pitch and as such there were few chances on show.

Auchinleck broke the deadlock on 31 minutes, after a free kick from wide on the left was curled to the back post where the ball was knocked across into a packed six-yard box for Euan Thomson to score from close range.

Glenafton drew level 5 minutes later after Ross Lindsay floated a free-kick from tight on the right, close to the corner flag, to a busy back post and where Jordan Allan won the aerial battle to send a downward header bounce into the net.

The home side came close to taking the lead after Michael Mullen gathered the ball on the outskirts of the Auchinleck box to forge his way past defenders before curling a low shot from 20 yards that beat the keeper at full stretch only to bounce off the base of the post.

The rain relented at the start of the second half and Ross Lindsay’s free kick dipped over the Auchinleck bar while soon after Cammy Ross a powerful run through numbers only to be stripped off the ball and as Lyall Holding caught Austin Sime as they challenged for the loose ball, the referee deeming that Holding’s slide tackle was worthy of a red card, Glens down to 10 men just short of the hour mark.

The rained returned and the 10 men were still posing a threat with Shuggy Kerr driving into the left-hand side of the box to drill a low angled shot only for keeper Corey Armour to advance to the six- yard line to block with his instep.

At the other end, Neil Schoneville slipped a defence splitting pass into the left hand side of the box for the inrushing Thomson to take a touch before blasting a shot into the sid-netting.

Two minutes from time Neil McPherson headed home an in-swinging corner only for the referee to have blown for an infringement beforehand. However on 90 minutes a Talbot tumble in the box earned the visitors a spot-kick that Euan Thomson slammed into the net and seal the points.
