Glenafton made two changes to the eleven that started against Largs Thistle last Saturday with Blair Anderson and Michael Mullen making way for Jamie Low and Cammy Ross.
The floodlights were on from the kick-off as the skies darkened. Play was evenly balanced before the Glens took the lead on 26 minutes. Callum Wilson floated a free-kick, from a yard or so from the left-hand corner of the 18 yard box, to the back post where the inrushing Shuggy Kerr leapt and twisted to guide a header into the roof of the net, to open the scoring against his old team. Another Glens attack was broken down in the Shotts box and the counter-attack concluded with Taylor Evans shot from 15 yards out to whizz inches wide of the right-hand post.
Back came the home side through Wilson gathering the ball deep in his own half before setting off down the right and giving a couple of defenders the slip to cut deep into the box to curl a shot that was pushed away by keeper Sandy Thomson only for the ball to rebound off Robbie Torrance and crash off the post and fall into the keeper’s hands.
The rain duly arrived and half chances came and went at either end.
Shotts won a free kick on the outskirts of the Glens box, up stepped Liam Craig to drill a low shot that keeper Max Currie did well to get down low and push the ball away before Brannan McDermott mopped up and cleared the danger.

Wilson whipped a corner from the left for the inrushing Lewis Currie but Evans intercepted and hooked the ball clear of the goal line which fell for Jamie Low only for his header to dip over the bar.
Conditions underfoot continued to worsen with relentless rain.
On 65 minutes the visitors drew level. Josh Gracie launched a throw to the edge of the six- yard box at the near post where it was headed high into the heart of the box where Darren Bowie’s downward header was controlled by Robbie Torrance on the edge of the six-yard box before swivelling and prodding the ball into the net. Half-chances went a-begging at either before Shotts almost got their noses in front. Marc McKenzie curled a low corner kick from the left to the outskirts of the six-yard box where Robbie Torrance got a touch sending the ball back toward the corner of the six-yard box or Rico De Marco to drill a low shot between two defenders only for Max Currie to see it late and pull of a great point blank save. The loose ball was deflected wide for a corner-kick from the right which was floated high into the goal mouth and punched clear of the box by Currie.
At the other end a Michael Mullen free-kick from 25 yards out took a slight deflection off the wall and out for a corner. Wilson, from the left, curled it high into the goalmouth where Thomson leapt to punch it away, under pressure from Ollie Rowe, before falling to the ground and although Kerr pounced on the loose ball, the referee blew for some infringement.
A couple of long throws from the right launched by Blair Anderson caused a panic in the Shotts six-yard box; the first saw Mullen get a touch only to deflect off a defender allowing the keeper to gather while the second was headed out and fell for Ross Lindsay only for his shot from 10 yards to fall comfortably for the keeper.
At the other end Shotts whipped a free-kick from the right touch-line, high to back post where Torrance’s downward header aimed for McGuigan was cleared by Anderson at the expense of a corner which came to nothing.
