Glenafton made one change from the eleven that started against Johnstone Burgh Saturday with keeper David Markey making way by mid-week signing Max Currie.
The pitch passed an early morning inspection after some heavy rainfall overnight.
The Glens kicked off and play flowed back and forth in the early exchanges with a half-chance at either end. For the Glens, Chris Erskine’s low shot from 25 yards comfortably held by the keeper. For the Buffs, Bryan Boylan’s shot was blocked and knocked out for a shy, which introduced the ‘long throw’ specialist, creating havoc in the Glens box and the ball scrambled clear.
Buffs began to turn the screw, breaking forward in numbers with options on both flanks and the pressure paid of mid-way through the half. Ben Lewis gathered the ball on right hand side of the box, at the bye-line, and clipped it to the back post where Ollie Rowe intercepted sending the ball high into the air and on its descent, it fell for No. 8 to on the 18 yard line to crack a shot that keeper Max Currie leapt to push the ball high into the air falling into a group of players from both teams out of which Ryan Wilson chased down the loose ball and although Craig McCracken blocked his shot on the six-yard line the striker persevered and his second attempt, now from the right hand edge of the six-yard box and a yard from the bye-line, he angled a low shot past two defenders and the keeper and into the net. Glens 0 Buffs 1, 23 minutes.
The visitors continued to press with wave after wave of attacks with Ryan Wilson creating havoc. The attacking full back (No. 2) whipped the ball in from right for Wilson only for his header to dip over the bar. Soon after his shot from a tight angle, deep in the right-hand side of the box, was blocked by Max Currie at the near post and then Wilson’s volley from deep in the box was pushed wide by the keeper for a corner. In a packed box, Wilson with his back to goal hooked the ball over his head only for it drift just wide of the junction of the post and bar.
The striker’s efforts were soon rewarded as he chased down a long ball played into the left-hand side of the Glens box and although keeper Currie raced from his line, he was suddenly caught in no-man’s land as Ryan Wilson, from an acute angle, composed himself to float the ball over the keeper’s head and into the gaping net. Glens 0 Buffs 2, 38 minutes.
Wilson was denied a first half hat-trick after keeper Currie dived at his feet and soon after another long throw was launched into the Glens goalmouth the ball up bounced up at the back post and Wilson’s header across the face of goal was plucked out the air by Currie.
Some respite for the home side before the break as Erskine gathered the ball in Buffs half and picked out Kerr on the left to break forward and drive a low angled shot from 16 yards that the keeper got down low to push away before the loose ball was cleared. Soon after Erskine pulled up and was replaced by Evan Maley just before the break.

The Glenafton half-time talk had an immediate impact. Callum Wilson gathered the ball at the right edge of the Buffs’ box about 16 yards from the bye-line only to be pushed to the ground by defender. Wilson floated the free kick to the six-yard line where Hugh Kerr leapt between two defenders to bullet a header that the keeper, a yard off his line, could not hold the ball diverting it into the net. Glens 1 Buffs 2, 48 minutes
The Buffs responded with a long throw from the right deep into box where Maley headed the ball high into the air only for No.7 to meet it on the drop and crack a shot that dipped inches over the bar.
Back came the Glens with Brannan McDermott setting up a shot for Michael Mullen to blast a low shot from 22 yards that the keeper got down low to stop before Kerr’s attempt to drive home the rebound was blocked, sending the ball out for corner. Callum Wilson curled the ball into a packed six-yard box and it’s not clear if anyone got a touch, before it bounced two yards from goal-line before drifting past the back post.
Glens continued to press, breaking forward in numbers and the fight back was on, only for their bubble to burst, and with a big bang.
The home side lost possession just inside the Buffs half and the ball was quickly launched into the Glens box where the Buffs engineered a shot which seemed to be covered by keeper Currie only for it take a bounce and the keeper lose his grip of the ball allowing Ryan Wilson to pounce and clip the ball over his head towards the back post, where Ben Lewis was first to react, and drifted wide of Currie and McCracken to clip the ball into the net. Glens 1 Buffs 3, 62 minutes.
Glens enjoyed a couple of attacks without testing the keeper before the Buffs struck again. A long throw from the left into the box, saw Ryan Wilson’s seemingly net bound header clawed away by the outstretched hand of keeper Currie, crashing to the ground in the process, however Wilson took another touch before Bryan Boylan volleyed the ball into the net from within a packed six-yard box. Glens 1 Buffs 4, 67 minutes.
Glens made a double substitution with Lewis Currie and Callum Wilson making way for Jamie Low and Dylan O’Kane.
Buffs continued to press and a free kick from the right-hand edge of the box, a few yards from the touchline, saw No. 4’s header, headed off the line by McDermott sending the ball high into the air before it fell for No. 8 to drill a low shot that keeper Currie, on his knees pushed away, only for the ball to clipped back into the goalmouth where Boylan’s header dipped inches over the bar.
However, turn your back for a second or two and Buffs had won the ball again forcing Currie to rush from his line only for Ryan Wilson to slip the ball under the keeper and the usher the ball into net and to complete his hat-trick. Glens 1 Buffs 5, 71 minutes.
Chances came at went at the either end but perhaps to the Glens relief there was no further scoring from the buoyant Buffs.
