Glenafton made two changes to the eleven that started against Largs Thistle last Saturday with Lyall Holding making way for Craig Pettigrew, returning from injury and midweek signing Chris Erskine making his debut.

In the Shotts line up was former Glenafton defender Chris Meikle

The two sides met each other at Loch Park at the Quarter-FinaLstage of the West of Scotland Football League Cup last season ending with the visitors progressing to the semi-final after a 2-0 win.

Glenafton got off to a great start after winning on a corner-kick on the right which was whipped to the near post by Ross Lindsay and although Jared Willet’s shot with his right foot was blocked, he stayed alert to fire the rebound home with his left. Glens 1-0 on 3 minutes. Soon after they woodwork prevented a second.

However, Shotts put a shaky start behind them and drew level on 31 minutes through Taylor Evans looping a header over keeper Ally Semple’s  head from the edge of the six yard box. There would be no further scoring in the first-half and the cup-tie was all square at the break.

The second half proved to be one-sided affair in terms of goal action as the visitors called the shots and Taylor stitched up the Glens with a clinical second half hat-trick. On 58 minutes a corner from the left was curled into the goal mouth where the alert Taylor Evans burst forward to bullet the ball home. Four minutes later after a short spell of head tennis between the sides the ball fell kindly for Taylor Evans on the 18 yard line to lash an unstoppable shot beyond Semple at full stretch and into the top left hand corner. On 69 minutes a corner from the right was clipped to the near post for Taylor Evans to nod the ball into the net from a few yards out.
